It is in Europe. Most of it is in Asia, but in a continental sense, around a quarter is in Europe, including the capital.

I would be surprised if they could even muster this much. I got a retort the other day, where an American challenged Europeans to point out the capitol of each of the states in the US. I think most Europeans would fail just as much. I just can't really figure out if that is a fair reversal.

It would be in my case, as I couldn't give a rat's ass what the capitals of the US states are. To be honest... I'm not 100% sure I know all the capitals of the European countries either :D

Even worse, anything south of the US speaks only Spanish, the African continent is one large country, Western Asian countries are thought to be in Africa as well.

It isn't a fair reversal. The fact he compares the US, a country, to Europe, a continent is moronic enough. However a more fair reversal would be asking a European to point out the capital of each American country (North and South, to make up for the lack of countries in the North). Asking us to name the capital of a state is like me asking someone to name all of the largest towns in each UK county. A US State is not the equivalent to a European country.

However, as for naming Capitals of US States, here is the ones I know off the top of my head.

Arizona - Phoenix
Capifornia - Sarcamento
Colorado - Denver
Delaware - Dover
Georgie - Atlanta
Hawaii - Honolulu
Indiana - Indianapolis
Massachusets (sp) - Boston
New Hampshire - Concord
Oklahoma - Oklahoma City
Nashville - Tennese (sp)
Texas - Austin
Virginia - Richmond

Now, a lot of these I only know from watching NASCAR and picking up random bits of knowledge. Some of those could be embarrassingly wrong too, but this is AFAIK. A problem for me would actually be naming the US States, because other than the big ones, a lot of Americans would struggle to name all 50 as well. Hell, a lot of Americans actually believe they have 50 states, which they don't. They have 46 states and 4 commonwealths! I'd love to see an American name all of the counties in the UK.

Just given myself a little test on capitals in general.... and I failed, quite epically in fact.

But then to be fair, there are lot of countries to memorise. I only really have space in my head for the obvious :P

I met an American who thought Holland was a small place near Amsterdam - the country.
