I know that this won't interest everyone, but you never know...
This weekend, Germany votes for a new Parliament.
Due to the voting system in Germany, Governments are always made up of coalitions of different parties. At the last election, an almost unprecidented result saw the CDU/CSU (rough equivilant of the Conservatives) go into Government with the SPD (rough equivilant of Labour).
This time, the analysts expect the CDU/CSU to aim for a coalition with the FDP (roughly equivilant of the Lib Dems) if they can get the votes.
Information I have read in the UK suggests the vote is getting closer.
Back at the last election, I was at university studying German politics, so I am quite keen to see how this goes.
Major Parties contesting the election, from "left" to "right":
The Left (Die Linke)
The Greens (Die Gruenen)
Social Democratic Party (SPD)
Free Democratic Party (FDP)
Christian Democratic Union (CDU)
Christian Social Union of Bavaria (CSU)
Personally I am keen for an SPD win, although that is probably unlikely.
Interested in the view from Germany!
