I know that this won't interest everyone, but you never know...

This weekend, Germany votes for a new Parliament.

Due to the voting system in Germany, Governments are always made up of coalitions of different parties. At the last election, an almost unprecidented result saw the CDU/CSU (rough equivilant of the Conservatives) go into Government with the SPD (rough equivilant of Labour).

This time, the analysts expect the CDU/CSU to aim for a coalition with the FDP (roughly equivilant of the Lib Dems) if they can get the votes.

Information I have read in the UK suggests the vote is getting closer.

Back at the last election, I was at university studying German politics, so I am quite keen to see how this goes.

Major Parties contesting the election, from "left" to "right":

The Left (Die Linke)
The Greens (Die Gruenen)
Social Democratic Party (SPD)
Free Democratic Party (FDP)
Christian Democratic Union (CDU)
Christian Social Union of Bavaria (CSU)

Personally I am keen for an SPD win, although that is probably unlikely.

Interested in the view from Germany!

That comment was a moment of inspired genius, unfortunately not borne out since then

At least we CAN vote and don't let the gouda oracle decide who's gonna run the country.

i hope for a good result of SPD and die Gruenen, but i doubt they'll be able get a majority in the parliament. on the other hand recent studies have shown that it could be impossible for CDU/CSU and FDP, too. so maybe again CDU/CSU SPD. while lots of people complained i think it wasn't that bad so i wouldn't be unhappy with that outcome.

If you ask me I don't want to be governed at all. I am old enough to decide for myself.

The part of me which revels in social experiments wants to see the CDU unveil Sarah Palin as their official campaign spokesperson for this election, and see what happens.

With the campaign motto:

"your old enough to decide.... do what you want!"

If that was Vader's campaign motto, people would be questioning why they should elect somebody who doesn't know the difference between "your" and "you're". Besides, should a candidate taking that stance even be running for office, since it goes against the very priciple for which they are campaigning?

Er you might as well delete my post since it doesn't make any sense now.

To be honest the humiliation of having that post there forever, possibly having it engraved into his sig is far worse than the reactionary deletion.
