the thing is the guy is a Legend, and everybody wants to see more of him everybody will remember him like we do with Lennon and Elvis
in my case it never crossed my mind that he'll die, i mean you where so used to see news about him and his new videos, controversies, that he was spotted, here, there, he said this, that so i guess in a way i always tought i will hear from him every now and then

probably media is recongizing the fact that we don't have any entretainers of this level anymore, and the way music industry run now i don't see one anytime soon.
what you need now is a pretty face, a good marketing, a cd with 1 or 2 songs with a catchy rythm "that you don't write/compose" and then you're a star, then in 4 years nobody will talk about you so you'll get a porn video out, get in rehab and then plan a comeback

Great auld musician and all, it is really annoying that they're either talking about him or playing his songs every minute on the radio two weeks after he died. There's more important @#$%& going down in the world. Guess that's the way media runs though.

Guys, graphic warning on this link...

This is an amazing visual document of MJ's skin troubles. WOW is all I can say.

What a life he had to endure, and how he still made out of it what he did. Incredible.

Jacko just went up in my books. To all those who doubted his skin and 'bleaching it' you should be ashamed.

Yeah right, a spider bit him.

Oh noes, it wasn't a spider. It was Obama and he's not even a true American and thus not the legal president.

This skin bleaching, how is it done? Your body makes new skin cells all the time and skin color is something genetic, so you'd have to bleach you skin every other week to keep it white I'd imagine.

I believe with his skin condition, and seeing black people alike suffering with it, to have half, part or all of your facial pigments in particular lost can have a devastating visual and psychological impact.

So much so, that I would go as far to suggest maybe his obsession with plastic surgery was maybe to hide the unusual appearance of his condition.

I don't necessarily mean the bleaching, that was most likely to removed the patches and give an all over white look.

Black people, and don't take this as a stab of mockery, often have more pronounced features. Ie, heavier bone structures, eyebrows, widers noses, more prominent lips etc. Now imagine the same on a white individual. It isn't common, and so it is more evident and striking.

I think jacko realised he was unusual to look at visually, and instead of staying what would have been an albino looking black guy, he took to the knife to make him more european/western to match his natural skin colour.

Being a music and performance star, it is all about how people view you - so to have the weight of a skin condition and such, you can only imagine how his confidence must have shattered coping with it, and thus his surgery obsession.

There is a famous example, a US tv anchorman called Lee Thompson with the same condition. He hasnt tried to hide it as MJ did.

Tragic life he has led.

even being a massive Jacko fan throughout my childhood, even till after his death i never really believed he had vitiligo, and just thought he had done it to himself through bleaching or some other treatment. but seeing that article Dan posted the link to, with what appears to be genuine "evidence" of him having the condition, i do believe it now.

the surgery to the face must have been a reaction to the bullying from his father, Michael trying to remove the "black characteristics" from his face (wide nose etc.) his father teased him so much about, while the skin whitened as his condition worsened and also with him trying to cover it with make-up. and as Dan said, it would look weird if a white man has the facial characteristics of a black man (not that he didn't look weird anyway, but that's another story, his obsession with surgery).

i watched the Martin Bashir documentary on youtube a few days ago and really felt sorry for him, he seems so shy and innocent.

and here's Obama as a white man:

I don't want to sound disrespectful, but me, my brother and my dad have the same skin condition as Jackson - Vitiligo.

As we've seen with Jackson, it can wreck your skin. My dad has extremely pale skin, and gets sunburnt very easily. Me and brother are getting it, my brother has it more seriously than me, have his skin his a pale white colour and half is a normal skin colour.

I get asked about it at school, and when I say it's vitiligo and Michael Jackson had it, people (seem) to pay more attention.

The white Obama looks like young skinny Schwarzenegger.

(Also do you know what two words make up the word schwarzenegger?) :)

The German word "schwarz" for black and the old word "egg" for ridge.

The word you had in mind only has one "g" in German.

Ah, now when a group of drunkards make that clichéd crack at Arnie in a pub, I'll be able to look all knowledgeable and pretentious and @#$%&.

While we're on lazy German name translations, Schumacher is shoemaker, innit? ;)

Schumacher misses an "h", as the profession actually is "Schuhmacher" but the meaning is the same.

Btw, "Button" translates to "Knopf" in German.
