Well sex on fire is a pretty sweet song but I agree that the top ten was a bit videohits-ish popular

Ah... I have fond memories of (accidentally) elbowing the kids TV presenter Holly Willoughby in the face during a KOL gig in Brighton back in 2005. And subsequently arguing with her boyfriend....

A simpler time.....

You annoyed Vernon Kay?

And you *didn't* get a knighthood for it?

er, Vernon Kay is married to Tess Daly, not Holly Willyboobies.

"a explanation", LS?! i expect better from you ;)

it's funny, at work a few people have jumped on the Kings of Leon bandwagon since Sex on Fire came out last year, yet when I play a song that sounds typically KoL from one of their previous 3 albums in my car to those same people, they have no clue it's them. their current album is probably the lamest album of the 4 to date, but most commercial which explains their sudden popularity.

I don't mind Kings of Leon. I liked On Call a lot. There's actually not too many bands doing what they do, even if they have commercialised themselves a bit. Just from helping organising a few small-scale gigs around for the last two years, the indie-rock thing seems to have (finally!) died and various forms of metal has taken over again. Unfortunately there's little in between. I've kinda lost hope a bit in music since Wolfmother hit the wall, although Inner Party System look kinda good.

yeah i don't mind KoL either, it's just i don't like hearing Use Somebody 12 times a day (we have a radio in the lab i work in). Sex On Fire is better than that, and Radio 1 only play a weird edited version of Use Somebody without the bit just before the guitar solo (that goes "I'm ready, I'm ready" over and over, the proper album version).

but they've done much better songs on their previous albums that all the new fanboys have never heard, and can't even recognise when they're played to them.

Aye, one guy in the apartment has all the early stuff, it's pretty good! I guess that's the way with a lot of bands though, for example Soundgarden got woefully commercial towards the end, the early stuff, when Kim Thayil was writing more of it, is brilliant.

Thinking about that and strangely, Led Zeppelin worked the other way round. Everybody loves the commercial stuff on I,II and IV, but Physical Graffitti and Presence still get a muted response when I throw them on.

While you're discussing a commercial song winning the Hottest 100, do I need to remind you that The Offspring won it a few years back?
