Have you looked at processes? That would drive you nuts, it's probably written into the registry. A roll back might get rid of it. Drastic though.

Do you use an email programme like outlook etc?

The fact it says "1 messageS" gives me the feeling it isn't a really good program, i.e. something like spyware or adware, most real mailaccountthingies etc should be able to say "1 message" and "2 (or more) messageS"

Thanks for pointing out this thread in the anti-spyware thread, LS. I had meant to have a look over it but completely forgot.

As Mortal said, post up a screenshot, or screenshots of the Processes tab of Task Manager, and we'll see if anything stands out.

I'd be staggered if it's not those 2 .tmp files listed, but unfortunately, I doubt running a search for them on the hard drive would show much up, and it sounds dynamic too, so it makes a random file name. Stick with the anti-spyware methods you're looking at, then we'll look at it further if you're still struggling.

That's a lotta processes you have running. If you can double-click the line between Image Name and User Name, that expands the Image Name window to reveal the whole name.

First thing I'd kill is the .tmp process running. If that doesn't, or is related to Photoshop, leave it and move on.

Photoshop shouldn't create a temporary process. It is multi-threaded, but it will show multiple photoshop.exes. The temp files Photoshop works with can't be processes in themselves as they aren't executionables or called as libraries.

Not 100% sure if it is malware/spyware related. One thing you could try is selective startup, ie run msconfig, select the startup tab and disable all un-needed startup progs. If you are unsure of which you can disable, look here:

Be sure to read the descriptions as malware often tries to disguise itself as a valid system start-up item. Alternatively, disable all startup items, and enable them one by one(reboot after reboot!!!) until the rogue message icon appears. This way, you can pinpoint which program is causing this.

The .tmp files are associated with photoshop guys, just checked it with and without it running and its only there when PS is running in the background

There is quite a lot of results on google for Adobe products and TMP processes. Premier, Photoshop, Illustrator, Bridge, Dreamweaver and the update software.

This is without Photoshop running

And this is with it running, with the .tmp files visible

I ended the OpWareSE4 process but the yellow envelope thing is still visible

Can't see it at work (Imageshack it blocked).

Which version do you have, as as I showed, mine has nothing, regardless of the type of file.

That's CS. Perhaps it's something which has changed since. As I said, I'm using CS3 (or version 10).
