nice one Karan, so you've ordered the F2004 with him standing in the cockpit?

came home from uni at bout 7:30pm from a tough exam and couldnt have found a nicer surprise waiting for me at home :) couple quick pics while theyre still unopened (sorry for the bad lighting. I think I had the wrong light balance setting)

Few close ups of the F2004

Check out the dirt and worn rubber on the tread (the white specks are dirt on the cover)

cool, looks quite good.

but because it only has one of those hot air exits on the right-hand sidepod, it must be the car from Spa, because at Suzuka his car had them on both sides.

the HANS device also doesn't appear to have the vertical bit at the back, that covers a bit of the helmet (EDIT: i thinks its just the angle of the pic).

i like the worn tyres.

it'll look great once you've converted it to Marlboro.

can you post some pics of the Renault when you get a chance?

cheers.

cool, thanks for the pics.

no doubt they will bring out the World Champion version very soon, with a plaque or driver figure doing a victory punch in the air or something.

i'll be on the lookout for the Minichamps 1:43 version.

Theres already something similiar out -

But it all it looks like (from the picture) is the same model as above except on a plaque with the accomplishments. After having had a closer look, the detail in the R25 isnt as good as the F2004, but those little things are only noticable under the camera zoom and not so much with the naked eye so I guess I'm alright with it.

yeah thanks for those pics too. looks like a small bit of damage on the tip of the nose.

@ Gui, yeah i did edit my message to say it does appear to be there, but the angle of the pic makes it look like its missing, but the vertical bit is not as big as it should be i think.

look how far up it goes on the real one:

and look at Kimi's on the 1:43 model:

it'd be nice if they could improve small details like this, maybe even have the tiny straps that connect the helmet to the HANS device. after all, we're shelling out a lot of money for these models.

and can you see what i mean about the 'pinky' appearance of the whole thing? i think the red chrome-painted model looks better, even though its not accurate to the real one.

how do they make models like this ive always wondered?

get a bit of metal, stick it in a die, bang it hard, and viola, you have the metal part. join all the bits together then paint them. (simplified of course :))

surely they wont have made the shape but hand would they?

well not by hand exactly, but maybe they get a chunk of hot metal, and put it in a die (mould) and press the other side of the die onto it, forming one of the parts.

they are 'die-cast' after all.

dont worry thats probably a combination of the tungsten lighting and my camera distorting the colors. in real life under daylight it looks more like a blood or deep red. if anything the chrome in that other version gives it a pinkish shine.

well i haven't seen either of them in real life, so my opinion about the colour is only based on photos i've seen on the internet.

The things are made in China so chances are its mostly people rather than machines making them.
I noticed with the batch of Hot Wheels Kimi R MP420s we got (i.e the shop I work in) the visor strip has been stuck on in the middle of the visor :s Not sure if the've all been done like that or if it's just a batch of them as the Montoya ones are fine. Same goes for the renualts.

I see what you mean Muks, but honestly I'd rather see more helmet than the ugly Hans thing :P. If they'll make it more detailed, might as well make some things detachable!

And the Ferrari is well red seen live, just that with pictures you can't help but get reflection onto the paintwork and you know the rest. These are some shots I took of the F2001, I fixed the lighting a bit on photoshop but you can still tell how it looks more pinkish (Schumi's helmet is soooo orange-looking in real life!):

remember it was a rainy day so you can actually see how much the appearance changes with the weather!
