GPGSL Round 11 Qualifying Coverage Part 1

Hello and welcome to qualifying for round 11 of this years World Championship at Imola. Lets jump straight into the action as the green flag is waved for the session start.

First out on track is Charrel Jalving and of course he also takes pole position.

Although Warrington immediately deposes him, by a tenth of a second.

Aleksander helps TSS keep pace...

Hinz goes 4th and then...

Greenhalgh lowers the benchmark by over a quarter of a second. Thats impressive! Especially with the track still being quite green.

However, Maverick gets within a tenth and shows that MPR may have good pace here...

Somogyi and Hunsley are the next two drivers over the line...

Pedersen uses his team boost to good effect and puts his Christel VXR into third.

Rodriguez and Cartwright are next through...They were quite close together on track...

But not as close as Thomas and JOhnson. Its obvious that they have both held each other up as they only manage mid-field times...

Kittleson comes through and takes unlucky number 13...

Sheppard, Karajlainen and Silvestre are the next three drivers across the line...

Viela comes form nowhere to post a great time! He goes into fourth!

Hovarth and Greidanus were released by their teams and the same times and may have damaged each others laps...

...or perhaps not...

Elleker through into a somewhat dissapointing 13th place.

Edwards is last through and in doing so finishes the first round of qualifying runs...

Here are the standing after the first flying laps...

Charrel Jalving gets us started for the second set of runs. Will he make the advantage of having a clear track pay..?

Yes he will...

Somogyi and Warrington are through next, but neither improves...

Cartwright up to 12th...

Here are True North and TSS again very close. Sheppard has obviously struggled from having to defend on his flying lap..

But Aleksander hasn't. TSS are really making their boost work.

Rodriguez, Kittleson and Greenhalgh all file through...

Greidanus, Silvestre and Hinz are next...

Maverick does very well! He gets onto the front row!

Horvarth, Pedersen and Karjalainen all come through

Viela and Hunsley cross the line...

Johnson and Edwards manage second runs amid all the traffic

Thomas manages to get into the top 10...

TNR and TSS at it yet again...what are they playing at? GPS must be down at the moment....

A look at the standings after all drivers have done 2 runs...

We'll be back after some commercial messages...

GPGSL Round 11 Qualifying Coverage Part 2

Welcome back to the second part of qualifying here at Imola.

Jalving starts the next 'heat' of qualifying rounds.

Jalving goes 5th...

Viela is very close behind him though...

But he manages to improve to 4th

Sheppard and Elleker both cross the line...

Somogyi imprves to 7th

Meanwhile Aleksander has had two purple sectors...

AND TAKES PROVISIONAL POLE POSITION!!!!

Warrington is through immediately afterwards but cannot challenge the time of the TSS driver...

GREENHALGH CAN THOUGH!!! POLE POSITION BY ONE HUNDREDTH OF A SECOND!

Rodriguez, Cartwright, Johnson and Hinz all power through...

Hunsley doesn't improve. Neither do Horvarth or Pedersen...

Greidanus goes 6th!

Silvestre, Viela and Kittleson all come through...

Followed by Edwards and Karajalianen...and Maverick

Here are the standings...

Sheppard starts things off again...

Elleker does not improve. He appears to be really struggling with the car here...

Thomas improves to 10th

Silvestre and Johnson are the next victims of the traffic situation as neither improve their times...

Rodriguez and Somogyi cross the line. Followed by Jalving and Aleksander...

GREDIANUS FIGHTS BACK FOR TSS!! My word that's close!

WARRINGTON takes the front row back for AMR! He's on pole!

Cartwright and Greenhalgh are next through...

Neither Vilela, Hunsley, Horvarth or Pedersen can improve...

Silvestre improves, albeit only to 21st

Maverick and Kittleson are next across the line...

Here are the standings...

We'll return soon...

GPGSL Round 11 Qualifying Coverage Part 3

Welcome back. There isn't long left now and as we've learnt already, track position is everything in this session.

Sheppard starts us off (again!)

Elleker manages to squeeze a little more time from his CVXR002...

Thomas, Rodriguez and Johnson come through...

Horvarth, Jalving, Vilela and Warrington fail to improve...

Aleksander can't get back onto the front row...

Cartwright, Hinz and Kittleson continue the trend of not improving...

As does Pedersen. It looks like he'll be starting 7th...

With less than 7 minutes to go, and the track temperature falling. The teams decide to call it a day. That means that despite their lack of boost AMR have locked out the front row. Congratulations to John Warrington on pole position...

Tune in tomorrow to see whether Warrington can convert pole position into a second win in a row, or whether TSS can fight back from the second row...

Here are the official results...

I am actually not. Again we failed to improve at the end and this jumped me back to 5th. Of course that's still a decent result but with the prospect of a front row, I'm yet a bit disappointed. A podium might still be possible in the race, but it'll be very hard work from 5th.

And...totally forgot to say that this seems to be the most extensive qualifying coverage for long! :-) Good job. At least nobody can complain here that the car didn't have TV time ;)

Ahhh man that's disappointing :(
Hope I can make up for it in the race

Another pole position despite having no boost, I'm in shock. Glad to see Ed next to me on the front row although I'd like to think he won't bump me off the road in the first corner. Fingers crossed that I lead home an AMR 1-2 in the race

Oh yeah...the AMR guys kicking each other out in the first corner. That sounds like a brilliant plan, if you ask me ;)
