F1 Manager - 2005 Season - End of the Season!

Vettel fastest in the wet

It was raining again in Monza in todays qualifying, and this time Sebastian Vettel was the fastest man. The only driver who was able to go his pace was Fernando Alonso in the Ferrari, who was only 0.05s slower in his best lap. The second row for tomorrows race is filled by the two Williams, with Villeneuve in front of Schumacher. Montagny also had a good session today, he got 9th place. 2003 champion Raikkonen was struggling in this tricky conditions, he qualified down in 21st. Webber in the Red Bull right in front of him in 20th place also couldn't find a good setup.

Monza - The Race - Part1

It's raceday in Monza, and the rain of the previous sessions is gone, at least for the moment. Sebastian Vettel will start from pole for the second time this season, alongside him in first row there's Fernando Alonso, winner of the previous GP. Current championship leader Schumacher will start from 4th place. The race is about to start now, and I've just received the latest weather report, in which a shower is predicted in about an hour.

The lights are out, go go go!

Alonso with a great start is already leading

Villeneuve is behind Vettel

And his teammate Schumacher almost beside Vettel, he too with a good start

The field is on the way to the first chicane

Schumacher misses the breaking point, he touches Alonso!

Alonso now off the track!

But he stays cool and gets back on p1

Coulthard now up in 3rd

A bad start for the polesetter

No crashes at the back of the field, everybody has managed to get through the first chicane

Vettel is put under pressure by Villeneuve, Rosberg and Montagny

Coulthard tries to make a move on Schumacher as they're heading towards the Variante della Roggia

Onboard with Rosberg

Parallel slipstreaming

Massa has lost one position

Schumacher tries to shut the door for Coulthard

Villeneuve wants to pass Vettel

Vettel stays ahead, but his teammate has lost 6th to Montagny

And has to defend against Massa now

He has the inner line, but Massa hangs on

Side by side on the way to Lesmo 2

And Massa has passed him on the outside. Now Lotterer, who is already up 6 positions, is behind him

That's quite a train

Rosberg has blocked Lotterer, and da Matta has passed him immediately

Barrichello tries too

But he misses the braking point and they touch!

They both go into the gravel

Barrichello facing in the wrong direction

Lotterer tries to rejoin directly

And that was really close! Very good reaction from Webber to avoid the collision

Barrichello in last place now

Unsurprisingly the fastest lap for Alonso

Standings after lap1

Rosberg wants to re-overtake Massa

And he gets past

Da Matta now right behind the Ferrari

More overtaking action on the way to the first chicane

Three cars side by side, let's hope this will turn out all right

It did

Fisichella gets past

He avoids to crash out, but drops back to 18th

Massa got the wrong line into the first chicane

He goes off the track

And continues in 12th, that mistake has cost him many positions

Lotterer misses the braking point

And goes off on the grass

Gets back in the middle of the pack

And touches Zonta's back

No damage though

The Renaults both have catched up with the end of the field

Coulthard tries to pass Raikkonen

And the Finn runs wide in Lesmo 1

Back on the track in last

Doornbos is off!

This drops him back to last

Onboard with Massa as his teammate sets another fastest lap

Massa and Davidson side by side

But Davidson uses da Matta's slipstream to keep off the Ferrari, and is side by side with the Toyota now

And passes him

Zonta has to defend against both Renaults

Rosberg runs wide!

And crashes into the wall, he's out of the race!

Yellow flags being waved now

Davidson, da Matta and Massa all side by side

Massa wants to get two positions with one move

And he does, very well done!

Alonso still leading

da Matta tries again, but Davidson shuts the door and they touch!

Both cars in the gravel

da Matta continues in 19th

Lotterer has to defend against both BARs

He can keep them behind

But the Arrows keeps his place

Kubica is another winner of the first laps, he has gained 8 places

Zonta still defending against the Renault

Sato now uses the slipstream to pass Barrichello

Barrichello loses much time, it seems that he has a problem!

Yes, he has! Barrichello is out! Electronic problems force him to retire.

Onboard with the leader

And there's smoke coming out of a car in front of Glock!

It's Kubica!

He retires with an engine failure.

This puts Glock in 6ht

Let's take a look at the standings again

And Sato passes him

Zonta runs wide!

And we're back with Ralf Schumacher coming in the pits

Watching our current leader

Schumacher back on the track in 10th

The gaps between the top 3

Montagny lapping his teammate

Fisichella is in the pits

He rejoins in 12th

Massa now in, too

Gets out in 6th

And Raikkonen comes in

13th place for him after his stop

Montagny comes in, and it looks like he's on a one stop strategy! Maybe he can win today

Back on track in 4th

Sato is in the pits

Meanwhile his teammate has to defend against Webber

But he can't, Webber passes him

And Sato gets out in front of them in 10th

Zonta brakes too late and touches Davidson

Davidson still in front, but Zonta seems to have the better traction

Indeed he has and passes Davidson

With everyone having stopped once, let's look at the standings

Webber and Sato side by side

And Webber passes him for 10th

Alonso now has to lap the three cars in front of him

Vettel seems to get closer to Schumacher

Doornbos passes Zonta into the Parabolica

Zonta tries to get back his place

But Doornbos keeps him behind

Looking at the gaps it could get really close between Montagny and Alonso

And here's the predicted rain!

Massa's right front wheel is in the air!

His suspension has broken, he has to retire!

Webber is in for his second stop, and he stays on slicks

He rejoins in 15th

Lotterer also in, and he too stays on slicks

9th place for him after his stop

The sky is pretty dark now as Ralf Schumacher pits, but he also stays on slicks as the track isn't wet enough for inters

Back on track in 7th

Although it's raining, Alonso sets a new fastest lap

Vettel comes in, slicks for him, too

He's in 5th now

The leader pits, will he stay in front of Montagny?

Zonta also in for his stop

Schumacher in as well, they all stay on slicks

And Alonso gets out in front of Montagny!

Zonta gets out in 15th

Schumacher in 4th, in front of Vettel

Coulthard is in the pits, and the sky seems to get a bit clearer

He gets back on track in 10th

Doornbos in the pits

As well as Davidson

They rejoin in 13th and 14th

Glock comes in

Back on track in 5th

With all the planned stops done, let's look at the standings

Glock is in again, he has problems with his brakes!

What a shame, that costs him 5th place

Onboard with Fisichella, and as we can see it's still raining

The gap between Alonso and Montagny gets bigger

And the track is starting to get wet!

Ralf Schumacher with a fantastic race so far, he's in 5th at the moment

And the rain has stopped

But the track is really wet at some parts now

Spray is coming up behind the cars

But not everywhere, the start-finish-straight is still dry

Whereas it's pretty wet at the Lesmos

Watching our leader, and it's starting to rain again!

Missed by the cameras Coulthard has passed Fisichella

Lotterer in 7th right behind Sato, and I don't think he'll see much at the moment

He tries to overtake him

And is in 6th now, good move

And the rain has stopped again

Glock in 11th behind Raikkonen

And the Finn runs wide!

But luckily he can keep the car under control

Webber makes a move on Raikkonen

But he looses control of the car on the wet track!

And Raikkonen too! They're both in the gravel

Luckily he pays attention while trying to get back on the track, otherwise he would have crashed into Alonso

He continues in 11th, and in the back Webber is still stuck

Doornbos overtakes Davidson

Webber is finally back on the track, but he has somehow lost his front wing and will have to pit again

He's in the pits, and gets the full wets!

He rejoins in 15ht

Alonso has started the last lap

Into the Parabolica

And he wins the Italian Grand Prix!

Doornbos finishes 1 lap back in 11th

His teammate Davidson crosses the line in 12th

Behind him Raikkonen in 13th

Michael Schumacher completes the podium

Vettel finishes in 4th

Zonta is 14th

Webber crosses the line in 15th, and on his only lap on the full wets he was 5 seconds faster than everyone else

Ralf Schumacher finishes in 5th, finally a good result for him

Lotterer is 6th

Sato gets 7th place

Coulthard gets the last point for 8th

And Glock crosses the line in 9th, but I'm pretty sure that he'll be very disappointed

Fisichella is the last one in the same lap with the leader in 10th place

Congratulations to Fernando Alonso and Ferrari!

Full results will follow very soon.

Good drive from Fernando, he did everything like he should and pulled it in were we wanted it the most, Italy, our backyard!
Felipe is on a very unlucky streak, 4 races without finishing is about to cost him the WDC.

If you are racing, keep on racing and get some points!

We're not happy with the outcome of the race, Sebastian's bad start cost him a possible win, and Nico crashed out while having a position in the points. I hope we can improve in the next race.

Satisfied with Takuma's 7th place, but it is clear that our car is completely off the pace.
Toyota

Finally a great drve from Ralf to pick up a fine 5th pace,so pleased for him :)...Disapointed that cristiano crashed out he was looking good to score some decent points, all in all a good weekend for us..
Williams F1

"Happy with Michael's result. Jacques was unlucky. We'll have to work on something to stop (legally ;)) the Ferraris before they beat us right at the end..."

My GPGSL Career
Once again Glock has mechanical problems. Can we have one race were his car lasts please. Very disappointed not to get any points. That damn brake problem.
Jordan

Horrendous race for us, but at least we got some points from Lotterer's 6th place. Raikkonen needs to catch himself on or he will be in danger of losing his seat prematurely.
Williams Complete Driver Lineup

Current championship leaders Williams today became the latest team to complete their 2006 driver lineup after the successfully retained Jacques Villeneuve and regained their 2004 test driver Christian Klien, currently testing at Minardi. The team revealed that Villeneuve, like Schumacher, has signed a one year extension to his current deal said to be worth £15,000,000 making the deal, over the long term, the second most expensive deal only behind Schumacher himself. Klien on the otherhand, who was recently demoted from his race seat at Minardi, has signed a longer two year worth £4m per year.

Minardi Sign GP2 Hot-Shots

Minardi finally took their first steps into the driver market this season after signing two rising stars from the GP2 Series, Vitaly Petrov and Adrian Valles. The team, who are set to become Toro Rosso in 2006 are clearly planning for the future after acquiring the services of Vitaly Petrov on a three year deal for £6m, and Valles on a two year deal for £4m. The team are yet to announce which driver will be given the opportunity to race for the new team or who they are looking to partner the lucky rookie.

Trulli To Make Formula One Return

Jarno Trulli today announced that following his year long sabbatical from Formula One that he will be returning to sport as a test drive for Toyota in 2006. The Italian, who last drove a formula one car at the 2004 Brazilian Grand Prix for Arrows, proudly announced that he had signed just a one year deal to join Cristiano Da Matta at Toyota in 2006, worth around £6m

The final mid-season test session will be taking place following the Belgian Grand Prix, this time as Monza. Unfortunately both Minardi and Toyota have run out testing budget so cannot take part in the test but if either of the managers are still curious as to where their teams rank at the moment, I will send them their rankings as well.

Also whilst on the subject of the next race, do we have any volunteers to run the Belgian GP? :)
