2005 Turkish Grand Prix-Round 14 Race

Hello and welcome for todays coverage of the turkish grand prix 2005..Qualifying saw Fernando Alonso take pole ahead of the two Mclarens in a very tight session with championship leader Felipe Massa way down the grid, can he salvage any points from there to keep his championship chances alive?..anyway the 5 lights are on so lets go racing!!..

And we are away here in turkey..

Alonso makes a great start and leads into turn 1 with Rosberg in 2nd and a fast starting Lotterer is up to 3rd..Great start from the Jordan driver!Barrichello is up to 5th ahead of the slow starting Villeneuve who is in 6th

Positions after the first lap..

DaMatta and the Saubers go at it down the field but the brazilian stays ahead

Alonso sets the fastest lap

Button and Montagny collide into turn 1,Jenson gets away unscathed,But Montagny rejoins last!..

A great scrap for 7th as Davidson MS,and Raikkonen battle with the finn losing a place to Sato,Great stuff!!

Buttons in the wars again, this time with Fisichella!

Zonta makes a good move on Webber for 18th..

Buttons dismal race continues with a spin,He rejoins last..

Lets have alook at the standings after 10 Laps..

Massa touches Davidson at turn 9 and spins!..He rejoins in 14th,not a good day so far for the brazilian

Fisichella,Webber and Kubica make thier first stops

Sato,Alonso,DC and Ralf are also in..

And with Rosberg pitting earlier than Alonso off camera,The german jumps ahead of the spaniard at the first round of stops,Great work by the Mclaren team!!

Many other drivers in making thier first stops..

Raikkonen spins off from 10th,rejoins in last, disaster for the finn!!

Lotterer,JV,Button and Glock complete the first round of pitstops..

And with the first stops complete, heres a look at the standings...

Davidsons flying in the Minardi, and sets the fastest lap

Raikkonen and Kubica are having a great battle for 20th..

Massa and DC touch spinning the Ferrari driver..What a torrid race the brazilians having!!

Fisichella in for his second stop..

Standings after 30 laps..

MS and Davidson battle for 6th...with Alonso comfortable in 2nd..

Montagny locks up in his battle with Massa for 14th,which gives the Ferrari man a run,and he makes a great pass around the outside at turn 7,Super pass!!

Rosberg starts the second round of stops followed by Davidson and Alonso..

Massas dismal day ends with a puncture,The championship leader is out!!

Lotterer pits from the lead with a quick stop and rejoins right behind Alonso!Has he changed to a 3 stop strategy??

Other drivers in for thier stops..

Alonso gets held up by Kubica, which gives Lotterer a run and he makes the move stick up the inside..Great move!!

Vettel,MS and Barrichello are in for thier second stops...

Disaster for Mclaren!!Rosbergs engine goes up in smoke!!In what looked like a comfortable second win ends in heartbreak for the german!...

JV in for his final stop

Barrichello retires from 5th with a transmission failure, with Doornbos also out with a broken suspension...Gutting for these pair of drivers they were both having a decent race..

Montagny and Da Matta make thier final stops..

A good recovery drive from Montagny sees him back in the top 10..

Buttons abysmal race ends with a water leak..

Vettel has an electrical problem and has to pit!!,he rejoins in 7th,not a good day for Mclaren..

Race leader lotterer is in for his final stop,he didnt do enough with his light fuel load and rejoins in 4th..

And so a look at the standings after the final round of stops..

Webber and Da Matta collide!,which sends the brazilian spinning..he rejoins in 14th,a day to forget for the Toyota team..

5 laps to go...

Lotterer is doing everything he can to wrestle the final podium spot from MS..

Alonso on to the last lap..

With Lotterer an MS still going at it!!

But at the front Alonso is in the final corner....

And Fernando Alonso WINS the turkish grand prix!!A great drive from the spaniard to take his second win of the season, and still puts him in with a chance of the title..Great Job!!

Anthony Davidson a terrific second,a great podium for the small Minardi team, super drive!!

With Michael Schumacher completing the podium, and now leading the world championship..

Andre Lotterer a fine 4th for Jordan..Good drive

Jacques Villeneuve comes in 5th..

David Coulthard 6th for Reanult..

Sebastian Vettel will be dissapointed with 7th

With Takuma Sato completing the point scorers

A day to forget for us at Toyota, both drivers complained of lack of grip and a poor pit stop strategy, just one of those weekends where it doesn't work out :(..Onwards too Monza..
Thanks again Alesi! :)

I'll upload the driver signings and stuff tomorrow, it's a bit late in the day to do now :)

HAHA! That's awesome! Great job there...

Nice job by Montagny to get up to 10th. Hopefully, he can find some 1-lap pace in quali to help pick up a nice share of points.

McLaren Mercedes

Pretty bad result for us. Nico was very unlucky today, he lost a safe win. At least Sebastian could get 2 points... that's better than nothing

It seems clear that Raikkonen has lost some motivation after leaving our team for 2006. However, Lotterer once again with a stunning drive to 4th. Hopefully as we get closer to the end of the season we can move up the field in the Constructor's championship.
Wow both cars finished. Miracles do happen it seems ;)
BAR
We are concerned about our car's pace. Takuma did a good job grabbing 1 point, could have been better though.
Ferrari and Sauber complete their lineups

As the F1 season is starting to near it's close, more and more teams are completing their driver lineups for next year and today, it was the turn of Ferrari to join that list with the signing of Giancarlo Fisichella from BAR. The little Italian said that 'words could not describe how happy (he) is to be joining Ferrari', after he signed just a single year contract with the team worth around £7.5m, which sees him join Felipe Massa and Jos Verstappen at Ferrari. It is currently unknown who will be partnering Felipe Massa for the 2006, however the bookies are tipping Jos Verstappen for the role of their number two driver, who has spent the past two seasons with the team.

On a very similar note Sauber, soon to become BMW Sauber, also announced that they had completed their 2006 lineup after offering their newly promoted race driver Robert Doornbos a two year deal to stay at the team. The deal itself is said to be worth £3.5m, which will see the Dutchman be part of BMW Sauber until the end of 2007.

NOTE: All the remaining drivers I have contracts for have now been made open for contract negotiations. So, unless a miracle occurs and Reve returns or we find a complete list of GP2 contract details, what you see above is all the remaining drivers still available for 2006 onwards. No more will be added to this list.

No worries John, will you still be okay to run the Interlagos and Shanghai weekends? :)

Verstappen dominates rainy Free Practice

In a very rainy practice Jos Verstappen was the fastest man today. Early in the session he set a time of 1:34.337 which noone could beat in the remaining time, probably also because the conditions got worse every minute. Second was current championship leader Michael Schumacher, but with a gap of over 0.3s. Glock and Raikkonen both had a good setup today, they managed to get in the top 6. A disappointing session however for Renault and BAR, Gene and Barrichello could only get p15 and p16, and the BAR drivers were on the last two places.

Impressive showing from Kimi in P4, making Bruni rather ordinary. Good session nonetheless.
