Track-Packs 1988-1991-1993-1994-1995-1997-1999 [RELEASED]

Posted by plodekk
Hi all! I came back installing Gp4 after several years, I just have a question: I have downloaded the 1994 trackpack which comes with its own PLUS update? Which of the two files is to be installed first? Where should I extract the PLUS update? Thank you very much for your support! :)
Hi Niki

If it is a PLUS Update for the Track-pack it should be able to install it automaticly with TMS.
If there are files and folders in the PLUS Update, than I believe you need to copy them to C:\Program Files\Infogrames\Grand Prix 4\Tracks\PLUS\1994, after you install the main 1994 Trackpack with TSM
Hope this helps.

Thank you gigi88, I’ll try this way :)
Hi there

Resurecting this thread from the dead, sorry, but I need to know why error "unknown pitlane 0" with Imola 88 in CSM. I'm using carpack 82. :(
Hi all! I'm using the 1999 trackpack with the 1999 mod v. 2.5 but I found that the top speeds of AI cars are totally wrong in Monza track: they reach about 290 kph, how can I solve the problem? Thank you :)
Hi Nick I did not test this season in monza but you can adjust it with physics ( that can affect all tracks ) or magic data for monza ( settings on gears for AI and Human ). Is it a problem of just your car or all the cars? Only happens in Monza?

Best

Jose

Hi Jose! This problem involves all cars, so probably there’s something to change in the gear settings of magic data. I haven’t tested the other tracks yet, I’ll let you know, thank you very much for your support! :)
1988 does not seem to work on Jacarepaguá, but fine in the rest. What do?
Hi jaguarcatalonia

Try to use the individual jacarepagua 1988 track to update it from fongu's blog.

Thanks!
@jcgrj

That's right, just alternative links, no updates.

Track-Packs 1988-1991-1993-1994-1995-1997-1999
Ciao ragazzi nessuno ha il track pack dedicato alla stagione 1992?
I have a problem with the 1994 track pack. It works perfectly in all mods....except in any of the 1994 ones in fongu's website :-O (have tried two of the single file ones), any tips?

1992 does not have!

Track-Packs 1988-1991-1993-1994-1995-1997-1999
Hi everyone, I'm trying to create my 1998mod based on 1997 from plodekk & CleberPister.
Firstly, thanks for these tracks. I've also put a quicklook on 1996 trackpack from Naitch7. It seems that most of them use the same dats (except Interlagos), so I assume Naitch just improved physics, performance, boxes and other stuff which is contained in .wad file.

As 1998 doesn't differ much from 1997, there are few things to do, but still.
So my questions are mostly about how I can fix some (minor) issues myself. From big to small:

1. Argentina (Buenos Aires). I've found that the track is just 4175m long (4259m in reality), the gap is 2% of 2 extra laps (indeed, dat contains 856 sectors instead of expected 873).
Is it the last version of the track (made by Maxi82 if I'm not mistaken)? And if so, how can I easily scale it up to its real length? After reading a bunch of topics, video tutorials and the manual of GP4 builder I don't see any quick fix. Sector length is fixed to 16ft and you cannot just stretch it up. The only way I see is to rebuild it from zero.

2. Monza 97. Actually the same issue. The track should normally be 5770m, but length in dat file is 5808m (8 sectors extra). I wonder where the difference can come from since the only one thing modified is the first chicane. However, it can be that the 1997 dat came from an earlier versions where the length was 5800 (old Curva Biassono and Lesmo). Then 5808m seems closer to reality.

3. Magny Cours 97. Here the gap is shorter, 4233m instead of 4250m, but it still requires an extra lap to cover 305km. However, I assume this is the original dat, so the problem should also persist there. Pit exit until 2000 was into the main straight, and in this version pit exit joins the track at Estoril corner.

4. Interlagos 97. As plodekk & CleberPister as Naitch7 have the same length there, 4306m. However, Naitch7 version has another pit entry and exit (which existed until 1998). Early entry with a chicane inside and exit to S do Senna directly (btw, pit lane was modified in 1999 and since then exit/entry are like nowadays). What I cannot explain is how track length changed in the mean time. 4325m before 1997, 4292m in 1997-99, 4309m from 2000 onwards. However, no traces of modifications (other than pit lane) exist on the internet. The only thing I know: GP4 versions have both 4306m (883 sectors).

5. Suzuka 97. Pit entry is like in the genuine GP4 (after Casio chicane), in 1998 it was still before Casio. Length difference is negligible.

6. Melbourne 97. Last but not least, pole should be on the left side. Frankly, I don't know how to swap pole side.
@uncle_dominique of all the length differences you reported, only the first one (Argentina) is relevant and yes, you can't simply scale it.

For the other cases, a number of factors might explain the differences:
- some tracks have an "advertised" length that might not exactly correspond to its true length, happens more often than you think (example);
- some tracks can be remeasured causing their official length to be revised without any change in the track itself, most likely the case with Interlagos;
- and the length reported by GP4Builder is affected by the splitting of the track into 16-feet sectors which can cause some inaccuracies.

@Prblanco thanks for the quick explanation. I went through the genuine dat files. Obviously Interlagos, Magny-Cours and Suzuka have the same length as in trackpacks I mentioned. It doesn't come from the authors. Concerning Interlagos I have the same impression. Interlagos changed "cosmetically", i.e. kerbs and pit entry/exit, however, in the official documents its length changed twice: from 4.325 (old good GP2 times) to 4.292 and then from 4.292 to 4.309. Moreover, pit entry/exit was changed between 98/99, but the official length remained the same. It was only updated in 2000. And since measurement systems become more accurate, the latter seems more correct.

FIA states that the "official" track length is an average between two sides, normally it shouldn't change if the layout is the same, but in many cases it was updated without any layout change: A1-Ring, Suzuka. So ok, for 14 tracks out of 16 I need to update only boxes and stands, in case of Australia also starting slots (if Naitch haven't done this in his version). Yes, also kerbs for some GP, but it's doable for a newbie like me.

Two major doubts are still Argentina and Monza. I don't know how Maxi82 edited Buenos Aires, since it did not exist in basic GP4, it requires a-lot-of-work. But still 2% difference is too much.
Either he measured straights and corners manually either his GPX data was not precise enough. We know, Earth data evolves as well, this morning I've drawn the itinerary in gpx.studio and the result was 4.27km (which is not far from 4.259). I got also the height profile, so nowadays the data is precise enough. But ok, I'll ask him personally after I check his update (maybe he has fixed it in the 2nd version).

Monza is still too long (5.808 in trackpack vs 5.770 in 1995-99 configuration). I've compared the genuine GP4 dat from 2001 with the file from 1997 trackpack and Biassono and 2nd Lesmo are the same (according to amount of sectors). So the difference must come entirely from 2 Rettifilo chicanes. But still, I can't believe someone can make a mistake of 38m on just two chicanes.

Anyway, curvature is high in that section, so it won't be a surprise for me if length estimation differs from reality significantly.
Is there any way to superpose two different dats to see where the difference can come from?

By the way, @Prblanco. I suspect that you are the author of the tutorial video of GP4 Builder on Youtube. Thanks, it's a really good content, I really appreciate it.

@uncle_dominique to change the pole position side, follow these steps:

- With GP4Builder, open the .dat file, open "Track Sectors" and select "Initial Sector". Then on the "Track Properties" window, look for the "1st Car Position on Grid" field. If the value is positive, change to negative and vice-versa;
- Next, on the "Tools" menu, select "Track Flags List". On the window that opens, look for ";(E8) Jip Mapping, Jip ID: 841", there should be two of those on the left side. Double-click any of them and close the "Track flag list" window;
- On the left of the screen, you'll see two "E8 Jip Mapping" commands listed. Click on each of them, take note of the value on the "Start Width Offset" field and swap them. So, for example, if the first E8 command had a Start Width Offset of 21 and the second a S.W.O. of -73, change them so the first one has -73 and the second one has 21;
- Save the .dat file. Depending on your mod settings, you'll need to reload the trackpack or do another similar procedure for the changes to apply.
