Yeah this is a common problem Alex. Just go to:

Start
Control Panel
Add/Remove Programs
Grand Prix 4, [ok]

That will probably fix it :-p

I have never been able to get GP4 to run on my system. I just got a couple of tips from the Microsoft Website on dual adapters uninstall, but I need to uninstall/reinstall the game, and after using the patch when I try to uninstall it only tells me that it has alreaady been updated. Anyone know how to uninstall without just deleting all the files? I think I have some old Nvidia stuff in the registry from a card I tried that didn't work. Could this be locking me up?

Radeon 8500 LE 128meg

Hi,

I found exactly this yesterday on a clean XP install - all drivers current.
As soon as the race started it would crash (or within a few seconds).

Not sure if its a sound bug in the game or some hardware/driver issue - its using motherboard onboard sound solution with (I'm guessing) much CPU assistance - so could be either.

For me, turning off both 3D and 2D sound acceleration solved it, and its not crashed since.

Try it yourself.

Regards
Jason.

Run gp4 with gpx_patch3.10, the gp4 must be a clean install with the decrypted exe from this site and no officialbutreallyunofficial patch installed, set gpx_patch to run in debug mode with verbosity set to high. When a forced exit occurs gpx_patch will generate a log file. The log should show the cause and where the forced exit occured. It's also a well documented fact here that it's pretty tricky getting gp4 up and running on xp for the majority of users. For some including myself it was much easier to revert back to win98 ;-) xp gobbles huuuge amounts of ram for some strange reason although this is not directly the cause it sure don't help, jason b is definately on the right track, I had problems there too. If you think you have redundant registry entries causing you problems use cleanreg3, it's shareware so deleting the selected entries must be done manually ;-) Use enditall to be sure all available recources are available to gp4. Some of the info may be useful, get back to us with your final solution. btw say "Hi to Tara" for me :-)

You cannot play it. Plain and simple (until a "real" patch goes out - if ever).
Or sell it and buy F1 2002. eheheheh

Got the same problem and worked around it as follows:
a) Deleted manually the folder where Gp4 is
b) Install the game again without adding patches and other @!#$
c) Uninstall it

Worked for me.

Good luck
