Matt, surprising?

Very much so. After testing i did not have very high expectations of what qualifying will bring.
When i got into the car i managed to find a decent balance.
This track is very hard to get a good setup for, as you can see with most of my rivals lower in the standings.
Here's hoping we can capitalize on our strong position.

The race at the sandpit has been run and won. Six DNF's! Five due to accidents, one to an engine failure. I would prefer not to run Zandvoort again due to the high rate of run offs noted at this track.

GPGSL Round 16 The Sandpit Grand Prix Zandvoort


Weather Report

Blue sky, sandy, sunny, track dry.....and sandy. No sand storms on the horizon.

Here we are back at Zandvoort, the sand has been bucketed out of the race directors caravan, the donut crumbs have been swept away and the big race is about to start. Will it be a championship decider? Three teams have elected to run a boost, TNR, Alpha and DXR. Maikel de Boer and Ricardo van Smirren are running driver boosts.
How many will give in to the gruelling conditions here at Zandvoort? Who will finish with Zand in ze underpantz? These vexing questions and more will be answered when the race director pushes the GO button!
We're about ready to start.


Houston stalls and Hinz is up into second.




Santilal attacks Winston.


But Winston holds his position with good defensive driving and Santilal drops back to fifth.


Aleksander in fifteenth.


Aleksander collides with Groeneboer!


Groeneboer is ok, shaken but not stirred! However it's the end of the race for the IED driver.


Aleksander limps to the pits for repairs.




Greenhalgh and Stoddart tangle on track.


Both cars rejoin the race.


Lord Byron in trouble.


Missing some important bits there.


More drama on track as Hinz runs off and into the wall.


The Sandpit takes its toll on cars and drivers.


Byron gets a new nose and shakes the sand out of the underpantz.


Grant also pits early, either for repairs or to touch up the lip gloss!


Winston holds onto third.




With Hinz out of the race, de Boer will have to bring home the bacon. mmmmmm bacon.


Aleksander puts in a fastest lap. He is a lap down.


Oh dear, de Boer is in the sand.


Onboard with Houston as he tries to close on Oakley.


Greenhalgh passes van Smirren.




Aleksander and Stoddart exchange pleasantries during the Sunday drive.


Koemerrer on the grass.




Top eight on lap fourteen.


Van Renselaar pits.


Stoddart in for a donut or two.


Houston enters the pits behind Oakley, can the Velox crew get him out fast enough to leap frog Oakley?


A good try but Oakley is out first.




TIME ACCELERATION

We rejoin the race with three laps remaining. Horvath has retired with an engine failure. Oakley leads and all cars have made two pit stops.




Houston in second place.


Winston in third.










The final lap.


Philip Oakley wins the Zandvoort Grand Prix.
