Shiny liveries in 2006/7

I've been playing the 2006 and 2007 mods and they're great but the liveries of the cars are too reflective on my computer.

For instance, the McLarens and Renaults look particularly strage. I've searched the forums a bit and think it may have something to do with Alpha channels, but I'm relatively new to all of this and don't know what those are or how to edit them. Any help would be great!
Thanks in advance!

mostly shiny cars are due to absence of an alpha layer. extract the tex file from the wad, convert the tex to tga, use photpshop or any picture editing software. you just need to insert a gray colored alpha layer. save it, convert it back to tex and import it into the wad. That should resolve the issue.

You don't need to go to all that trouble actually, theres a line in the f1graphics.cfg that allows to to adjust the reflectivity of all the cars, look for "Environment Map Strength".

If the shinyness only happens on some circuits then you will need to edit the materials in the graphics file for the affected circuits and remove some items "self-illum" property ;-).

Good Luck!

Okay, I opened it up and got this: "0 ; Environment map strength (0=>use game default)"

Assuming that a lower number makes for a less shiny car, what can I do if it's already set to zero?

search in f1graphics.cfg for the line:
; Enable AdvancedCarShader v2
if it's set to "1", change it to "0".

If you read the line you can see that 0 is the game default ;) (which is about 40-50 i believe).
