F400 racing manager game - 1 space available *pg3*

Posted by Locke Cole
Formula 400 is entering its seventh year and is still in really good shape. This is an AI-racing manager game run on GP4, complete with its plethora of editors. The concept of the game is designed to be as simple as possible, and as interactive as possible.

It has quite an active following, including a weekly newsletter. In a nutshell, managers design their own car liveries and set their team's tactics for each racing weekend, much like BATracer. You choose set-ups for races, which are then translated into performance levels using my own algorithm set (different for each circuit) and implemented in-game.

Here are some screenshots:-

And a YouTube video of one of last season's most dramatic races:-

Gaps between races are 2 weeks, so it's at quite a slow pace, but a lot of work goes into each race weekend and I have a life and a job ;) so it's great if you don't have a lot of time but still want to take part in a game like this.

The new season is currently in pre-season, due to start in September. If you'd like to take part, please let me know ASAP. Many thanks.

Any questions, or requests for more info, feel free to post here or PM me.

Hi Toby,

I'm interested in this serie for being a teammanager, sadly i'm not experienced with making car liveries. Do you know someone who can do it for me? I can give exact details for a new livery. Which template is used for this serie?

I really like the setup of this serie. :)

Thanks in advance and cheers

Did you say interactive? Whoa!
But can't really join in as my modding(paint and such) skills do not exist.
Out of curiousity, how do these perfomance files work, do you have a supposedly ideal setup and the nearest/most similar gets most points?

Hi, wow this has generated a sudden surge of interest! :)

I'll address the point which seems to be causing the most concern straight away... 90% of the managers in this game aren't painters themselves. They provide me with a design, and I create it myself (I enjoy this). I'm a very proficient painter but I don't release anything because I'm not a good modeller. ;) The car model used for this game is the SMD-01 chassis by MDBsnake.

Secondly, this is a stand-alone series which runs independently of anything already on this site, so you can enter a team if you already have one elsewhere.

Next up, calling it an "interactive" game is a glamorous way of saying "The managers talk to each other and there's a weekly newsletter" :) Managers who contribute to the newsletter are welcome (adn it also gains you extra set-up points) but this is not essential. However, I'm hoping for some dedicated managers who will contest every round of the Championship, otherwise it creates gaps in the field which are difficult to work around, hehe.

Finally, I'll explain briefly how the performances work. You have 6 car components (+ reliability) to set up for each race, as well as other options such as tyre compound and driver performance bias. Each circuit has certain characteristics which you need to cater for in the set-up (e.g. rear wing for high speed tracks). Your set-up choices are entered into an algorithm which I've created on a spreadsheet, and that calculates a numerical value which then becomes the performance levels in the perf file. Hope this helps...

Anyway - many thanks for your interest. If you definitely fancy setting up a team, please PM with with your e-mail address so I can send you a handbook.

P.S. I'll have a look at those thumbnails, the top one in particular is pretty important for showing features of the game...

I send you set-up sheets before each race haha. You fill 'em in, send 'em back, and I do the rest! An example set-up sheet is shown in the first screenshot (now working).

I think it's a cool feature, cos it's depends less on the AI.
