Asked the author of the shape, Eugénio Faria, about why and this is his answer:

Its just a matter of using all the "space" available in the texture. On the old version there was a lot of space unused. With this new mapping all the space of the texture is used meaning more overall quality.

just compare the old ones to the new and you see what I mean,in the old textures you see a lot of black spaces untextured,in the new ones all the tex is mapped.

There you have your why Toyo !!

ive installed the 2006 helmet shapes but it just ctd at the track loading screen

who says its due the shape ?
