You make it sound like that you have to be in the army for a certain period of time.
I know you are from Finland, but in Norway you have to do a year of militiary service , iirc. I remember that Ole Gunnar Solksjaer (the Man Utd forward) almost had to do it, but he didn't because he was a professional footballer. Finland is in Scandinavia, as is Norway.

Is it the same?

no. we have 3 possible periods 6,9 and 12 months and it depends on a mission ( the one you will be ) how long you will need to be there .

There was a Finnish Liverpool player who had the same problem. Cna't remember his name now, but he was told he had to go back or loose his passport. I think he got out of it eventually.

I've done my national service, too... that was in 1998. It was 12 months, and I hated/loved it at the same time...
