For me, the single most impressive game that made me break away from the trusty old Amiga 512 was seeing the original "Alone in the dark"
Once i had seen that i had to own the latest ninja spec PC ( 50 mhz Cpu (pure 100% processing power, not the run of the mill overclocked 33mhz chips rebranded DX266 Cpu's
) and running Windows 3.1 )
Gaming had never seen anything on the scale of this! full 3 dimensional graphics! and a musical score that changed to suit the tone of the game ( i.e scarey when something was about to happen )
It even had graphics in SVGA!!!
Thats what made gaming so much fun back then, the advent of new technology (which admittedly seems hilarious nowadays) enabled such diverse and original games
i cant think of any such groundbraking games since to be honest, many just rob & borrow ideas/technology from each other
originality is lacking in current PC gaming i feel
**Waiting for the next big thing in originality**
