I defy anyone not to be scared when playing the origional hidden and dangerous on hard difficulty

Unbelievably immersive (despite the fact that you fell through the ground every 100 meters ;-))

The most important game of all times, however, is DOOM (original doom 1)

Remember:
- it had the first3D engine that really earned the name (although it was technical still "2,5D";)
- it was the first massive multiplayer title
- and most of all: it's the first game with a major mod/ level community

YOu can get the original H&D wit it's addon for free now, released for free in the run up to H&D 2, form here: [www.gathering.com]

The bugs are fixed and the lighting effects and graphics are improved, however they have made it so you can only have one skin per model in the updated engine, this means that all your SAS men have the same face ;( It was cool in it normally how they had the face of the one you chose. You can sort of half get round this by copying the models with the editor, but this only really works for germans in the maps - I dunno how you could do it for your SAS men, as they are whoever you have selected, and therefore not the same each time you play a mission necessarily.

Also, it has been censored, like the german version HOWEVER you can easily uncensor it by unpacking the dat file, and renaming the censored folder "unscenored" and the uncensored folder "censored". :)

For me, the single most impressive game that made me break away from the trusty old Amiga 512 was seeing the original "Alone in the dark"

Once i had seen that i had to own the latest ninja spec PC ( 50 mhz Cpu (pure 100% processing power, not the run of the mill overclocked 33mhz chips rebranded DX266 Cpu's :) ) and running Windows 3.1 )

Gaming had never seen anything on the scale of this! full 3 dimensional graphics! and a musical score that changed to suit the tone of the game ( i.e scarey when something was about to happen )

It even had graphics in SVGA!!! :o

Thats what made gaming so much fun back then, the advent of new technology (which admittedly seems hilarious nowadays) enabled such diverse and original games

i cant think of any such groundbraking games since to be honest, many just rob & borrow ideas/technology from each other

originality is lacking in current PC gaming i feel

**Waiting for the next big thing in originality**

Thief 3 is eigth and the other two not to be seen?!?! What a load of bollocks. The other two are much better than it, yet I bet they are not even in the list.

The first 2 Thief games were very nice.
I have to say Championship Manager 3 and Football Manager 2005, as well as Grand Prix 2 and Motocross Madness 2 is also missing :P

I was an avid Megadrive/Atari St fanboy back in the late 80's/early 90's.
I got the phenomenal F1GP(GP1, if you will) in early 1992 on the Atari ST and loved it.
I had seen lots of impressive games on the PC at that time, but THE one that made me save up and get a mega 486DX2 66mhx, ;) was seeing preview screenshots of Grand Prix 2 in EDGE magazine in 1995.

A 1950's style B-Movie adventure game based on "Them!" about giant ants

Codemasters makes it, it has many different names:

Toca race driver 2
DTM race driver 2 (germany)
V8 supercars (australia)
Pro race driver 2 (usa)

Sure do! Played the crap out of this game, but always had a lot of trouble fighting the ants.
