How to update/mod GP4

Hi everyone,

So I'm new to GP4, but I have learnt a fair bit in the last few days and I now have a fully installed, fresh GP4, patched and with GPX patch 4.30a installed.

So I'm looking now to update the game with a 2014 mod, but specifically I'm hoping to have the correct tyre compounds on show for each track. I want to get into other season mods also, so general advice on how I update the game and use tools is appreciated.

Things like changing between seasons quickly and how best to achieve this are all a mystery so please any help would be great.

Thanks in advance

Hi

The FAQ here has a lot of info as well as searching per specific thing you want to do.
Many folks here are very helpful

Here is the FAQ
[www.grandprixgames.org]

TomMK here has his GP4 Central website with some updating info too
[www.gp4central.com]

Also he has a 2014 full modded version already to use if you want in either laptop
(which is just to say lighter in mb's/resolution but still great on PC too)...or his higher resolution CSM mod version
[www.gp4central.com]

Also you may like this...It is older & originally from GP4-Italia written by Samuel Fin [ 32BOBO32]
was written in Italian (I think?) so the translation may not always be great but it does have a lot of info in it It was 214 pages in pdf
if you want to check it out? I have it in .docx format as it showed the pics better but also have pdf version if you like
Lots of CSM mod stuff

Here is the DOC version if you want to browse it...

I don't know where to start. The good thing would be to explain you the most useful tools and how to update your game manually... But, I think it would be easier for you to start with a CSM Mod, as it makes the game ready to use.

First of all, install Zaz tools: [www.mediafire.com] (several tools to use CSM mods, install new tracks with TSM etc..)

Then, install gp4tweaker_v1045_reloaded: [www.mediafire.com] (follow the instructions of the installation step by step) (I don't know if this step is necessary for CSM mods, btw)

Download CSM MOD 2014 on GP4 Central: [www.gp4central.com]

Then, launch CSM to open the mod (CSM mod users here can help you if you need it)

I don't think that the CSM MOD 2014 includes tracks. If you want to update your game with more recent tracks, you can use season trackpacks (.thu files) or install tracks manually:

There is a lot of tracks availables. Here are some friendly and active links where to dowload tracks but you can also use the search function of this site:
[f1virtual.blogspot.fr]
[www.grandprixgames.org] (look under Drt01 signature)
[gp4facile.clicforum.com]
[gpgames.eu]

BTW, I suggest you to use the CSM mod first with your original tracks and then to use new tracks, if all works fine and if you wish...

In order to use my 2014 tyres into the mod, look at my readme file first and associated threads to get it to work into the mod:

And don't forget the FAQ, as Flying mentionned it...

Thanks for the help and detail.

When I try to run the CSM mod from GP4 central, the CSM tool tells me the exe has been modified and I require an original exe?

I only changed the exe to the nocd one as per the advice.

I'm going to go down the csm route since I think several seasons are available in csm? I will then try to add tracks afterwards.

With respect to the tyres, can these be added to the csm mod then?

If CSM fails to restore correctly you can get an incorrect exe message. Just replace your exe with the no CD version. Keep a handy backup.

Yes the last few pages (4&5 at time I write this) of this thread deal with using them in CSM Mod
[www.grandprixgames.org]

On the needing an exe as mortal said just replace it
Tom has one here too
[www.gp4central.com]

ok guys, i think have the CSM loading sorted out.

Time now to learn about adding a track, then the 2014 tyres.

I'll try the tracks first, but any help is appreciated. I'll try your links above first. Is there a tutorial anywhere?

On the tyres, I think i would be able to do it, but I'm lost when it comes to the performance file....where is it?!

For me the easiest way to add tracks is just use the GPxTrack tab in GPxPatch
There is a tutorial on Tom's site
[www.gp4central.com]
But basically you just browse to where you have the track stored on your computer

If your going to have a few GP4 sets on your computer you may want to do as I did & just have a Track Library on your drive
That way you only need point all your GP4's to it when you want a track & no need to have more than one of
the same track around....saves some space ;-)

Performance file is always in gpxdata folder

Nope, they are swapped there when you start a mod, but the mod itself normally has them either in GPSAVES\Carsets\Mod\GpxPatch or GPSAVES\Carsets\Mod\Performance ;-)

Some mods
F1 1996 | F1 2002 | F1 2007 | F1 2011 | F1 2013 | F1 2015 | F1 2018

Ooops I forgot some CSM mods are like that with a Performance folder
Like the Fsone 2009 I have & the 2002 mod

But Toms 2014 has only the gpxpatch folder for the performance file
Dont know why I said gpxdata ;-)

Good catch (Y)

Thanks for all the input so far guys

I have a question on adding cars. Is there a tutorial you could point me to? A tool I require?

Edit:

So i have found a tutorial for adding cars however I have two problems.

1) where do the TEX files go and what do they get renamed to? The same as the lod's are renamed to?

2) How do you know what team to replace. For example I want to install say the Williams Sochi livery, but how do you know who williams are in the cars.wad? Which 2001 team?

I could really use a tutorial or help that fully explains

Thanks
