Are u using XP and did u reintsall it after your upgrade i had to run the xp repair option and this speeded up my computer.

If u do not do this xp does not update the regestry and still thinks its using the old hardware even though its says its not.

I use ME with every drivers up to date and off course on other games I am quite fast in 1024*768,even if I have a Athlon 1400 with G4 MX 440.

Usually I was used to stay around 25 fps with good details ( no calibration )
now the same, but sometimes approachin corners it drops to 3 ( three ) or four ( 4 ) fps !!!!

It does seem strange then.
It must be down to the hardware I guess.
I do have Bump mapping off (as I don't like the look of the track with it on)
I do have Heat Haze off (as I don't like the look either)
I don't use 3D wheel either (didn't know you could get new wheels for GP4)

Other than that I have draw distance;s set at welll over default (to stop pop ups) and a few other tweaks...

I do use a P4 2.8 @3.0 (143fsb)

512MB DDR400 on a daul channel memory board

ATI9700pro with Aniso set at x16 performance.

fps are set at 36 (and never change) PO goes from 25-45% with one car to 65-95% with full grip still at 36%...

wish you luck

Simon.

Your pc specs are completly different from his no wonder why your file did not help him.

He has an AMD different ram and different graphics card the main things lol.

His graphics card is the same 9700pro as me.
His DDR ram is running only a little slower (333 to mine 386)
His cpu is a little slower I guess xp2400+ v P4 2.8@3.0

But still he should be able to get better score (fps v PO) than he does I would have thought?? :)

Yes I agree Simon. I just disabled fast write in the ATI control panel. That gave me an improvement. I am sticking with my high level graphics options. I can get 33-41 fps in practice. Brazil race starts at 30 when the lights go out we are around 22-24 first corner 20-21 then eases off to c, 30fps. This is almost acceptable, but I should have more, and the start of arace is very important. I ahve also messed with agp aperture 64-256 no difference. 512 abd the Cat drivers don't load. My 2d mark 2001 score is down to 9870 (highest in xp has been 11800 and in win 98 before change of mainboard 13400).
Maybe I have aproblem outside the game. Waht's your 3dmark2001 score?
New cats are out 3.4. I'll give them a try.

before you give up on gp4 it might be down to the new hardware!! when i first got my system i was having problems with gp4 to was running fine then would slow down then be fine for a few mins!! anyway i traced the problem down to the mother board having a back up system called recovery genius!! disabled that & that was it sorted!! im running an amd 19+ just in case u have one of those boards cant remember the name of the board tho?:(

hope that helped you in anyway was worth a try

This may do it ......
I havent played gp4 yet cauz i am still looking for a pc to run it but so far i am struggling to play gp3 With anything more that 16 fps(N)( THAT IS REALLY BAD isnt it)
But i love the game and get fine graphics out of My Worst Motherboard .

XP is the biggest problem for the games .........98 is the best for games.
Try removing all the TASKS running before you play the game you may get PO less and may be better fps.
Believe me try 98 , you will Certainly see the difference in the game.

I play FIFA 2002 on my pc with the average detail level, i tried the game on my friends pc Which fat Better than mine who was on XP and believe me that game was jerking with NIL detail level.

if you are on windows XP , install 98 and run gp4.

I am still imagining what the game looks like in 40fps.

I agree with WinXP you must shut down all un neaded task and services.

I have a "Games" profile that I boot into just for games with most XP services and task shut down :)

Simon,
tell me more. What have you shut down? I reached 10.885 3d mark 2001 today. I had to uninstall and reinstall drivers cat 3.4. I used a tool called driver cleaner and installed from safe mode. Gave me 1000 points. And I giot my track loading pictures back!,. I still need 2000 + points to reach win 98 level score.
1000 points caused NO DIFFERENCE in GP4 performance. I am dumfounded.

That seems a bit low for your system, with no overclocking at 1280x1024 i get 38fps min, with fsb at 140 its around 47fps.

system: XP1800, Gainward G4 4600 128mg, Asus A7N8X, 512mgs DDR, WinXP Pro.

You can right click the GP4 exe, click properties and get it to run in Win98 mode, give that a try perhaps.

Yeah I mentioned that ,watch the po it may or may not skyrocket. It did when I tried it.Maybe when you try it delete or move the graphics files and the f1gstate files when you try the 98 comptibility mode.I should have tried that, maybe I will.Maybe do a before and after comparison.

Tried it. No difference.
Unistalled sb512pci drivers and gameport driver and disabled device. All my goodies on including Haze bumpmapping but static em at 1280x1024. Had FPS 30 on the grid (brazil) going up to a steady 33 afterwards. Bloody Soundblaster seems to be the problem.
Now is it the card, the drivers or the slot. More experiments are needed

I know with my system part of the problem is the sound card. The c-media chip uses the processor to process the sounds.I decided to put in win98 to get a dos game to run and tried gp4,well gp4 runs better in windows xp then win98 by about 4fps and this is with the same graphics config and all the same options.
LarryM if you have a Win Xp running on fat32 its really easy to install win 98 on to another partition. If you are on NTFS partition you would need a boot
manager.Heres the link for anyone who wants it,also has tips and fixes for Xp.[www.dougknox.com] its under winxp tips.
