Bazinga. No wonder he wanted the engineers to sing soft kitty to him whilst testing for Christel VXR.

That's good to hear. Guess that means I can get a start on the race weekend coverage.

Yeeeehaaaa
Ok, the testers free practice has been run. Should hopefully have the coverage up by later tonight.

GPGSL Rd 3 Malaysian GP – Tester’s Free Practice

Hello and welcome to Sepang International Raceway, the venue for the Malaysian GP and Rd 3 of the GPGSL. We have seen quite a lot already this season, and we are about to see more this weekend. First up on the schedule will be the Tester’s Free Practice. So let’s not waste too much time and head down to the track. As for the weather report, everyone has been advised to have an umbrella on them, as we are in for an extremely wet session.

Weather Report: Rain

First out on track is the SCR of Greg O’Brien.

TNR have finally ditched the car of shame, thanks to a handful of helpful people who helped put together TNR’s race cars. Here is the team boss himself on track.

Here is MAC Racing’s new livery for the season, with Nathan McGregor at the wheel.

As the first man out, O’Brien naturally sets the fastest time.

Hinz slots into 2nd behind the SCR driver.

Silvestre puts in a decent laptime to take 3rd.

Mills, now no longer shameful, shows that his TNR is quicker than Silvestre’s MPR by taking 3rd.

Van Smirren spoils Mills effort by taking 3rd away.

Elleker is unable to match his team mates time, and is given the wooden spoon for his efforts.

He doesn’t hold it for long, as Thomas goes slower in his Shadow.

De Boer in the second SCR can’t match his team mates time either, and goes 8th fastest.

SCR owner, Mal Stoddart, slots into 8th, keeping De Boer in last place.

Santilal goes 8th fastest, and pushes Stoddart down a place.

McGregor takes his MAC Racing car to the limit, and puts himself in 7th.

With the 1st runs completed for the first group of drivers, here are the current standings.

Japanese GP winner, J.Warrington, is in the testing seat for two races due to inactivity.

JHR boss, Jack Hunsley, puts his car into 12th.

This soon becomes 13th, as J.Warrington takes 12th away.

Karjalainen manages to go quicker than both, and slots into 12th.

Copeman unfortunately isn’t able to set a faster time, and is given the wooden spoon.

Kittleson in his Shadow can only manage to go 13th fastest.

Hayes sets a time good enough for 12th.

While Grant manages to take 15th from Copeman with her time.

Domenech in the 2nd VSM slots into 13th with his laptime.

Nell in his Demon sets a time that’s only good enough for 16th.

Sheppard can only manage 15th with his time.

The last driver to set a time is De Bruyker, but his time isn’t as good as he thought it would be, and as a result takes the wooden spoon from Copeman.

With all drivers now having set a time, here is how the standings look.

Unfortunately, there has been a technical problem with the cameras, and as a result the rest of the coverage has somehow been wiped. News from the circuit states that even though there has been a problem, the drivers were still able to complete their 2nd runs, but no improvements were made due to the rain getting heavier.

So, congratulations to Greg O’Brien and SCR, our Malaysian GP Free Practice winners.

Stay tuned for the official results.

Engineer: "Alright Greg. It's looks like it'll be raining for quite sometime today. As you are the first driver out on track, be sure to keep the car on the black stuff, and set the best time possible."
O'Brien: "Ok. I'll do my best. Not sure what sort of time I can set, so all I can do is just hope and pray it will be good enough."
Engineer: "Right then. Good luck, and I'll let you know the time that you set later."

After Crossing The Finish Line
O'Brien: "How was that lap? Was it a good one?"
Engineer: "Yes. You set a 1min 41.241, and no one else in the 1st group could beat that time. It's looking good for you so far. Bring the car in, and we'll get you ready for your 2nd run. De Boer is down in 11th, in case you wanted to know."
O'Brien: "Alright."

Near Beginning of 2nd Lap
O'Brien: "The track is getting too wet. The monsoon tyres are going to be needed. I'm coming in. Don't want to go off the track and damage the car."
Engineer: "Ok, but that means you don't get another chance to better your time."
O'Brien: "I'm ok with that."

Yes! My first tester's free practice win. It's been a long time coming, and I always say that the 1st one is always the hardest to obtain, so I hope that I can score more wins later on. Of course, if it wasn't for the rain, who knows if I would've been able to hold onto the fastest time. Anyways, time for a ice cold can of Monster, and settle in to see how the race will turn out. Depending on how the rain goes, it may end up being a very interesting race.

The weather completely dictated this session's results so nothing really to say on the TSM's performance

GPGSL S9 R3 Malaysian Grand Prix - Sepang

Friday Free Practice - Official Results

Looks like it's going to be a very interesting weekend. Very happy with the Aston boys performance today, especially in these difficult conditions.

5 x WCC - S5, S6, S7, S8, S10 | 4 x WDC - S5 Nick van der Voort ; S6, S7, S8 Ed Greenhalgh | 2 x WTC - S6 Stuart Ingers; S8 Andrei Sevastian
Screwed over by the weather. What a waste. hot

Excellent result Greg in the wet. Nice work. :-) Bit of a shame Maikel's car lacked a bit of pace and didn't quite make it into the top ten.

Fifth and ninth is probably a good measure of our pace here.

Now we've got the ball rolling let's build momentum up over the weekend.

Coincidence that Greg ends up fastest in a session that he ran? ;)
