GPGSL S9 R13 - Austrian GP - A-1 Ring [Race online p205!]

Posted by GPGSL
was it like ONE unfortunate incident? Just realising how funny this sounds because for once One Racing is not meant xD
What I mean is was there a big crash with 8 DNFs at once or rather 8 different incidents and something else? If it was the first, please tell me you got a vid of that and will place it online ;)
Owen Edwards @oensan 17 hrs
16th and 17th is not where we wanna be. I think a raindance is in order.

Unless I'm very much mistaken... I am very much mistaken!
I'd bet I was one of them, considering I qualified right in the thick of things...blimey, I'm such a pessimist ;)

8 retirements? My hope is decreasing as well. So it's close to either points or nothing, eh?

Feature races for the testers only take place if the RD decides to run one.

Double Lancia engine failure, I can see it now ;)

Race Day - Part One

You join us here at Suzuka for round 2 of Season 9 of the GPGSL. Weather conditions are perfect as the cars line up on the grid to wait for the lights.

And they are off!

Pole sitter Kederer hasn't got off with a good start and is passed by both Warrington and Jalving.

And MAC's John Warrington leads the first lap.

Closely followed by Jalving.

Van Renselaar has a little look at passing Scala, but thinks better of it.

Warrington still leads coming out of 130R.

Greenhalgh locks up going into the chicane.

Pedersen is forced off track as he tries to take advatage of Greenhalgh's mishap.

Warrington takes fastest lap as Greenhalgh hangs on to 11th.

Pedersen loses 2 places and Gilson challenges Greenhalgh.

Gilson takes the position.

Kederer in a lonely 3rd.

Van Renselaar pulls out of Scala's slip stream.

The Dutchman takes 4th position.

End of lap two and Warrington takes fastest lap again.

Steer stears wide and loses a handful of places.

The two Snakes are now running together at the rear of the field with Chris Warrington.

We have an incident at turn one. A Demon as fell of the circuit.

It's Somogyi and he's bogged down in the gravel and our first retirement of the day.

A replay shows he just got into to turn one too hot.

The movers and shakers in the top ten.

Steer has put his earlier mistake behind him and is chasing Cartwright.

Jalving takes the fastest lap bonus point.

Horváth in 16th runs wide and smacks into the wall losing a wheel.

That caption is surely wrong, thats Horváth not Edwards.

Scala's car is also being hoisted off track, another retirement.

A replay shows Scala ran out of talent and hit the wall.

Now the caption shows Horváth is out the race. This needs investigating.

Taking a look at another camera replay, we see that Horváth wheel hit his team mates car, sending Edwards into a spin.

Edwards hits the wall too and is out of the race, the caption wasn't wrong afterall. A bad day for the True North Racing.

Join us again after this short break.

Race Day - Part Two

Welcome back to the action as everyone shuffles up the order after all the recent retirements, but Warrington still leads.

Another team having a bad day as the second VSM retires, Chris Warrington is out of the race with a loose wheel.

Lap 5 and here's the current standings.

Gilson takes 8th place from Rodríguez.

Red 5 is now 3rd, the camera's have missed van Renselaar's overtake of Kederer.

Rodríguez takes a spin at turn one.

He too gets stuck and has to retire.

Maverick is starting to put some pressure on McCarthy in 5th.

Van Renselaar doesn't have his team mate's problems with turn one.

McCarthy runs wide, can Maverick take advantage?

Yes he can, he just about gets by.

It seems to be closing up at the front.

It's Moinet's turn to get his wheels on the green stuff.

Warrington stretches out his lead.

Everyone in the top ten have made places except Kederer and McCarthy.

Here's the full standings on lap 10.

Brunner is beginning to lose touch at the tail of the field.

Jalving is first to stop for new tyres.

Followed by van Renselaar.

Moinet stops too.

Jalving rejoins the action in 10th place.

Van Renselaar in 12th.

And Moinet in 14th position.

Warrington passes the pits for another lap.

Don't go back, we will be right away.

Race Day - Part Three

Hello once again. The on track action continues as Maverick and Greenhalgh elect to stop.

Maverick is now 10th and Greenhalgh 12th.

Van Renselaar needs to get by Cartwright as quickly as possible, he's already lost alot of time to Jalving in the pitstops.

He does it.

Jalving testing out the grip levels of his new rubber.

Connor Steer passes Greidanus.

The leader Warrington is in the pits for new tyres.

He rejoins the race in 3rd, but still ahead of Jalving.

Kederer now leads the Japanese Grand Prix.

Lap 15.

Kederer pits at the end of Lap 15 and rejoins in 4th position.

Maverick is stuck behind Brunner who hasn't stopped yet.

Brunner takes to the pitlane, that will release Maverick, but he may be too far behind Kederer.

Thats not going to help though as Maverick has a slight moment.

Legge is pressuring Pedersen.

The pressure seems to have worked, Pedersen makes a mistake at turn one.

Greidanus in 13th chasing down Steer.

Jalving is really pushing, but pushing too much as he runs out of road! Can he hang on to 2nd?

Yes he can, van Renselaar is too far behind to capitalise on Jalving's error.

A close up of Jalving in the MPR.

Lap 20 and a look at the current standings.

Don't back away, we will go right

Race Day - Part Four

Back live and Legge attempts and fails to pass Greenhalgh.

Kederer is closing in on van Renselaar.

Legge attempts to pass Greenhalgh again.

Greenhalgh hangs on.

Van Renselaar looks too fast going into turn one.

The Dutchman is lucky not to stray into the gravel, but he loses 3rd to Kederer.

Steer overtakes Sevastian.

5 laps to go.

Warrington looks serene in the lead, shame he will be carrying a performance penalty for the rest of the season.

Legge still giving Greenhalgh a hard time.

This time he gets past the World Drivers Champion.

2nd and 3rd on their way to 130R.

A disappointing afternoon for Cartwright.

McCarthy has suddenly fallen behind Moinet and looks to lose out to Legge too.

Greenhalgh too passes his countryman.

McCarthy is in trouble with a loose wheel.

Kederer dives down the inside of Jalving and steals 2nd.

Final Lap.

John Warrington - MAC Racing wins the Japanese Grand Prix.

2nd Tobias Kederer

3rd Charrel Jalving

Congratulations to John Warrington and MAC Racing.

Well... I can honestly say I didn't expect to be in the points after qualifying! On the one hand I'm 5th from the back, but still 10th is something. Add on the point for places gained and its not too shabby after all!
It was a bit chaotic out there and a lot of it was about keeping the car on the track and in the right direction, but with the pace the car had I certainly feel we were gaining on the guys ahead. The pace is certainly promising when it comes to a race situation!

A good effort from the SCR team, at least we didn't get a DNF, and Joseph brought home some points. :-)

Maverick post race comment

That was a tough race. But I'm very happy with 5th. Considering that we didn't use boost and obviously struggled with the pace, 5th is a great result! And it means good points for the championship. A few laps longer and I might have been able to annoy van Renselaar a bit. But it also would have meant more room for mistakes. So I'm happy that I could bring a good performance and secure some points for me and the team. Pity, however, that Andrei struggled once again. But he will fight back, I know it!

Yoohoo ! First points for me and JHR !
A pity Gareth had troubles at the end, this could have been a better result for the whole team.
