Raikkonen tops the timesheets

In today's Free Practice session for the French GP here at Magny-Cours Kimi Raikkonen was the fastest man, but the gap to the drivers behind him was very small. Nico Rosberg in second seemed to be boosted by his promotion to the raceseat alongside Webber, whereas his teammate Vettel in 19th place was far away from the performance in the US GP. Schumacher in 3rd place showed that Williams has closed up to the top teams. The Ferrari powered Toro Rosso's in 4th and 6th, better than the Ferrari team itself. The Renaults once again only at the back end of the field, surprisingly with de la Rosa faster as Alonso.

Toro Rosso
Very small gaps indeed, but great to see both drivers up the sharp end at the early part of the weekend.
Hopefully the cars can stay quick in qualy and reliable in the race, and we can get the result we've been promising for the last few events.
McLaren

Strong lap by Kimi, but with the gaps being that small we expect a close fight for the pole position.

We'd like to announce that from the German GP onwards, Robert Kubica will replace Kimi Raikkonen in the Free Practice sessions.

We'll be having a bit of a talk with Fernando after that performance.
Actually pretty good practice. Nice setup reward
Honda
Let's hope no Setup Reward won't affect us too much, because our pace seems quite good.
Super Aguri

Not a good result at all, hope we have a better result in the quali
Red Bull

Nico's strong pace shows that he really deserved a chance. As for Sebastian it is a pity that he couldn't carry over the performance from the US GP. We will have a close eye on how this situation evolves in the next races.

My GPGSL Career
2006 Grand Prix de France - Qualifying

Q1

A short day for Super Aguri and Midland, their drivers didn't manage to qualify for the next stage. They are joined by Renault's Jenson Button, who already started from pole 3 times this season, but at the moment his car doesn't have the pace to achieve this. Also out is Bas Leinders, who seemed to be getting in the next stage for a long time, but was kicked out by Robert Kubica, who jumped from 20th to 12th with his last lap. Overall we have Kovalainen in 22nd, Lotterer in 21st, Glock in 20th, Button in 19th, Frentzen in 18th and Leinders in 17th.

Q2

The first surprises now with Heidfeld failing to get in the final stage, as well as da Matta. Nico Rosberg, who showed a great pace in the free practice is also out, while his teammate just managed to get in Q3 with his last lap. All in all we now have Alonso in 16th, Rosberg in 15th, Davidson in 14th, Coulthard in 13th, da Matta in 12th and Heidfeld in 11th.

Q3

For a long time it looked like Jos Verstappen would start from pole position, but in the final seconds of the qualifying, his time was beaten by Ralf Schumacher. But the german couldn't celebrate for long, as only a few seconds later Kimi Raikkonen went 2 tenths quicker. The final results look like this: Webber in 10th, Villeneuve in 9th, his teammate Michael Schumacher in 8th, Montoya in 7th, Massa in 6th, Montagny in 5th, Kubica in 4th, Verstappen in 3rd, Ralf Schumacher in 2nd and Raikkonen on pole position.

Honda
What a complete disappointment.
Super Aguri

What a disaster, can't believe we went from top ten positions to the last rows of the grid
McLaren

Great job by Kimi to get his first pole position this season. Also very well done by Robert to get 4th, after almost dropping out in the first stage.

Red Bull

That's indeed a bit of a disappointment after the latest upwards curve and the very good test pace. Somewhere we lost this pace from Friday to Saturday and the outcome is a disappointing 10th and 15th place. Especially Nico disappointed a bit after his great test performances. Hopefully we'll be able to catch a point or two, at least. And we have big hopes on the upcoming test in Jerez!

Toyota

Top job by Ralf to be second with a stunning lap, unlucky to miss out on pole by a tenth..
Cristianos lap was ruined by traffic disappointing on that front..
Race should be fun:)
Ferrari

After being fastest in both Q1 and Q2 it's kind of a disappointment to only start 3rd and 6th, nonetheless a very good result! We will try to make up for it in the race!

On another note, we would like to thank Jos in advance for his proven services! We wish him the best of luck during the next seasons! We will miss him at Ferrari! Jos has promised us to stay 100% focused until the end of the season! :)
