Tom Wilkinshaw Dies

Some sad news breaking this evening:

I wasn't aware that he was ill.

I was reading an article on him the other day from an old F1 Racing mag, and he never got the results he deserved at Arrows.

RIP Tom. I used to be an Arrows fan, and it's sad he's gone

Can't say I was even aware of his battle with cancer either, so, yeah, very sad news and a bit of a nasty shock

RIP Tom - I'll always very fondly remember TWR Volvos in the BTCC!

RIP n all, but I struggle to shed a tear for a man who cheated his way through all forms of motorsport. Sorry.

His Jaguar XJ220s were disqualified from Le Mans for illegal exhausts, fitted after the pre-race inspection. Had a few ETCC DQs for similar technical infringements. Court cases over missing money in the Arrows days, which brought out interesting stuff like Damon Hill was paid with off shore bank accounts, to hide the transactions on tax grounds. His failed payments to Cosworth throughout 99. Apparently how he's run HRT was less than nice too, but I know nothing of the V8SC and only read about that stuff recently.

Respect to him in his death, and especially his family. In motorsports? Sorry, I won't miss him.

For me, the Volvo 850's will always be remembered ! And the le mans XJR.

Other than he was a very questionable person as you say Dave, but most top men at top level motorsport are IMO. Some of the going's on at Arrows were interesting. I dont really know alot about that other than brief readings on the net here and there. Hill wasnt the biggest fan of him was he?

While his methods were often 'dubious', he's had an enormous influence on motorsports. Not least the formation of the dream team in F1 with Brawn and co. which would later dominate the sport.

I can't say I ever really liked him, and it would be hypocritical to change that now.

Of course, I give my condolences to his family and friends, and I'm sorry that he died. RIP.
