2010 Formula 1™ Malaysian GP THREAD **SPOILERS**

Posted by raulongo
quite a good race, atleast it brought the championship standings closer! Shame about Alonso's problem but he did well until the failure!
Hamilton had a good race, some good overtakes i must say even if it was due to the speed difference!

Vettel was great at the start, glad to see he attacked for 1st! It should be another easy win for them at China imo, their car should suit that track just like lastyear! This is the start of Vettels charge for the championship!

A very bad race for the Sauber guys....

But well done to HRT in getting both their cars to the end of the race, they should have quite a bit of useful data gathered after today.

A good race with some great over taking as well.

Probably the best drive was by Alonso for coping with that gear box race long, he may have been better though to settle for 2 points but at least he went for it.

Great race again by Lewis but the weaving was a bit much, at that point he was just trying to break the tow and they were not in the braking zone but he did move twice in what we would call the braking zone. I think he is lucky not to be given a drive through, but you can not give one for that and not for webber in Brazil and Australia when he actually hit a car :) Live Gav said I am sure they will talk about it next week, but we have seen it before by others.

Kubica drive well yet again.

Its hard to rate Vettel tbh as the car is just that good its near enough easy.

I do think its good that they are just warning drivers this year.

Overall its shaping up well for a good fight for 2nd in the championship as I think Vettel in the rbr is going to be just to good for beat.

Well he has blown Webber away with ease. Isn't that enough?

Wow, a repeat of Bahrain except with some fast guys starting at the back... fun racing until the first pit stops, then everyone holds station for 2/3 of the race. Zzzzzz... Thank God we had some drivers out of position to spice things up.

LOL @ Hamilton driving amazingly well in the first stint to get away from Alonso/Massa/Button, but then ending up in exactly the same place in relation to them by the end.

Glad we've got the Red Bulls joining the championship battle now, but in terms of racing this one was another bore-fest.

Yes but I dont rate webber never have :)

Dont get me wrong vettel is a fantastic driver and he in the best car so its easy thats all I meant.

Yes that was a bit funny with Lewis done all them moves took all the risks and Massa finished one place behind and started one place behind, Lewis just could not pass Sutil the speed for that car down the straight was fantastic.

it was a good race overall.Vettel deserved the win.

Did anyone else notice the mercedes gp pitstop for rosberg.they have the quickest time of all the teams.the front jack guy didnot stand directly infront of the car at the time of release.he stood on the side and just yanked the jack from underneath the car.some intelligent work from mercedes team.

A Boring race... with some very fun parts.

Drivers' Championship
Pos. Name Team Points
1. F. Massa Ferrari 39
2. S. Vettel Red Bull 37
3. F. Alonso Ferrari 37
4. J. Button McLaren 35
5. N. Rosberg Mercedes 35
6. L. Hamilton McLaren 31
7. R. Kubica Renault 30
8. M. Webber Red Bull 24

Can't argue with that. Very close!

Jenson drives it like he owns it; Lewis drives it like he stole it
Anyone made a table with the old points system?

In the Forum they spoke about it but only talked about the top 3

Good race, the lack of rain during the race itself was compensated for to an extent by the mixed-up grid. Good to see Force India further up, and Virgin finishing. Brilliant drive by Alonso to keep up with Massa despite his car problems, and he was unlucky it didn't last a couple of laps longer. Very impressed by Petrov, he showed real fight and some great racecraft. Kubica was awesome all weekend again. Great drive from Rosberg too to get a podium.

And yeah, we have a nice close Championship now!

The dude got a great start to take the lead at the first corner, led all the way and beat Webber in the same car. What more was he supposed to do?

"From the start things went wrong," Alonso told Spanish television. "On the formation lap my gearbox broke and I had no clutch during the race, so I had to brake in a weird way.

"I had to first gear down and then push the throttle hard so it would engage the gear for that corner.

"So it was probably the hardest race of my whole life in terms of driving, because I had to improvise for every corner.

what a driver - the best on the grid in my opinion.

Ok Vettel was fantastic he made a great start and passed webber who left the door wide open, great racing by vettel top stuff lol.

Tbh I dont think you get what I mean at all. All I mean is there were some great drives out there today that I rate so much higher than Vettel who was in the best car and is a great driver so its easy for him. That is all, I am not slagging him off or anything like that. I just cannot say it was a fantastic drive or anything like that.

Have a look at what Alonso had to cope with, now that is a great drive not many on the grid could have coped with that and kept the car going.

it was an OK race, Red Bulls did what they have to do and i think top 8 drivers drove very good races, Shame for Schumacher, but it was a gain for other drivers and Massa is leading the championship now, obviously rain made things interesting so let's hope for more at China

Alonso, yeah, driver of the day, with those problems he didn't look slow at all
I still think Hamilton shoulda got at least a drive-through. You can't just leave things like that, as everyone else will try their luck too.

As James Hunt would often say...'Ooh, he's weaving, that's very naughty.'

Also, I was very impressed with Alguersuari. He has really matured this year.

Whats most interesting for me are the longitudinal wings along the floor.

edit -

Regarding Mclaren, Button might say he went for the challenge and im sure he did but really the main he went to Mclaren is no doubt this imo:

Last year the way they found the problem, solution then developed was awesome. Alonso said in 05 but again Button saw the potential. In Malaysia, Lewis at least looked genuinley quick and looked only a whisker away from being able to challenge for pole.. If they can keep this development up both drivers should be hot on RB's tail!

they have a special front jack that has a hinge/swivel, so once the jackman has lifted the car up as it comes into the box, he can move to the side and pull the lever of the jack round with him, and then drop the car and pull the jack sideways without having to stand directly in front of it.

RIP Jules, never to be forgotten. #KeepFightingMichael
If Button had finished 7th with Massa 8th, rather than the other way round, it would have been FOUR drivers on 37, which has never happened before!!!

Currently it's:

Massa 39
Alonso 37
Vettel 37
Button 35
Rosberg 35

It could have been:

Alonso 37
Vettel 37
Button 37
Massa 37

If Vettel had won every race he was leading he'd have been on 75 points after 3 races, which has never happened before!!!

Sorry. :D
