But still, if Jenson aquaplanned what stopped another doing the same even under waved double-yellows then hitting his car, and putting the marshals more at risk.

I'm hardly saying they should have expected to be moved back onto track, just that while there was a small chance of it, in what way are they losing out by just sitting and waiting and seeing?

As I said, they could just turn off the engine once temperatures started to rise towards a critical point.
Let's hope the race is quality...I wanna see someone out of the ordinary win tomorrow :)

Great work by Webber!

A fascinating qualifying, hopefully the race isn't interrupted by the rain tomorrow.

I'm predicting Kobyashi on the podium, with the Hulk. And a Rosberg win.

Red Bull's race to lose, so if they can't do a 1-2, they will both be out 'for sure'.

haha! Dan that would be a dream result! Except replace hulk with Rubens :p and maybe id prefer a Rubens win, Nico 2nd and Sato v2 3rd.

But yeah RedBull's race to lose.

From memory, what is Kubica like in the rain? He seems the strongest 'other' up there.

Sutil looks like a dark horse for a podium too, realistically. He was fast at Monza in the wet, wasn't he?

Rubens *should* pull off a solid, if unspectacular race in the shadows.

This is quite nice, because barring the red bulls storming off, I do think it gives us a brilliant insight into how the rest of the field fare when three of the big guns are taken out.

This race could very well break Rosberg, and take him totally out of his mystery that he is a 'good' driver. Good, but not brilliant. This race will answer and prove otherwise.

On another note, how amusing would it be if Sutil takes Vettel out at the first corner, lmfao. Icing on the cake for bad luck. Haha.

But yeah RedBull's race to lose.

You'll get poor odds on that this season. ;)

As Dan mentioned Kubica, you have to congratulate him. The bloke was epic in Aus and once again the opportunity presented itself today and he grasped it with both hands. The bloke is on fire at the moment. He's reminding me of what Alonso managed in that car throughout 2008... obviously 3 races in is hardly comparable to that stunning season by Alonso, but the bloke is clearly getting more performance out of his car than many of his competitors are managing with theirs.

It's the opposite to what Ferrari seem to produce. I said it last year and the year before that (see the Silverstone 2008 thread, where I outright refused to blame the drivers for their constant spins), but they always seem to end up with car which isn't strong when the conditions aren't ideal. It's been the same for a good 5 years now, but a damp, wet or low grip track and the Ferrari never seems to work as well as their rivals. Renault on the other hand have thrived in such circumstances for the past decade.

Again, I refer to my post in the Silverstone 2008 thread, but long wheelbases don't work when the weather gets marginal. In theory (assuming all other things are equal... which they never are, but it's all we've got to play with) you get a more stable car, but when it starts to slide, you have far less chance of correcting it, and as a result you either spin more often or you lose all confidence in the car. It's why I didn't get down on my knees in front of Hamilton at that race in 2008 and why I refused to berate the Ferrari drivers like many did.

Now this season McLaren have made a car which roughly resembles a railway we'll see if that theory holds any water, so to speak. Hamilton and Button had little joy in qualifying - while their timing didn't help, what cost them both was critical errors more, while both were good in marginal conditions in Melbourne (though only against the perennially long-wheelbase of the Ferrari) while the Renault, which has retained a shorter wheelbase and made the car fatter, has been mighty strong in both of those races.

I'm not saying long wheelbase is bad (of course over this season it will win out) but looking back over the years (and you can go back as far as you like... look at Alesi in that little Tyrell in 1989), it's never inspired confidence in low-grip scenarios, and it does a damn good job of making excellent drivers look very ordinary... while good drivers in short wheelbases cars can look excellent in that same situation.

So in summary, either the Renault is making Kubica look epic, or Kubica is making the Renault look epic.... you might as well have not bothered reading the above. ;)
Well it's an interesting theory. :) Might have to monitor that as the season unfolds... the FIA seem to have deliberately chosen several races this season at times of the year when it is most likely to rain. China, for example, will most likely be wet again.

If he doesn't need to call out the RAC, then I'd have a stab @ Webber. Reckon Vettle will be in the kitty Litter again and Kubica to get 2nd or 3rd and one of the Q1 blokes to storm through the field rain permitting of course....

Why is the BBC allowing only a two hour slot from 8-10am for the entire pre-race, race, and post race broadcast?

Are they only showing the green lights then? Weird... what time do we need to wake up?

It changes to BBC 2 at 10. Race is at 9.

Well done Sebastian! :D

Great job by Vettel and also Webber, 2 points behind Massa I believe in the championship, and that after 2 bad races for them! For a moment though in the last lap, where Vettel lapped that Lotus I thought he was braking down, ack.

And again Kubica is up there in the dodgy Renault, great job for him on 4th, same goes for Rosberg in 3rd and Sutil in 5th.

Great job by Button to keep it out on 1 set of tyres for 46 laps, quite a bad call for Mclaren in the end to take him in that early, he could have finished in front of Massa without it I think, Hamilton might have a little edge over Button speed wise, but I think Button can make it Hamilton very hard by being so kind on his tyres.

Alonso... some problem all race long, managing it well, untill he got carried away in trying to take Button, costing him the engine, abit dumb ;)

Red Bull surely is the fastest car, no doubt about it, Vettel could have won all races but it didn't happen, though Ferrari also seems to have some issues with their engines, replaced it at Bahrain, at Melbourne they also had something going on, and today again. I think Mclaren could be well up there as their reliabillity seems great, so this can be an interesting championship.

Don't know why ITV were constantly saying Alonso had down-shift problems. It sounded to me like an engine pickup issue all the way through. It wasn't idling correctly when off the throttle. He did well to do so well to be honest. The only surprise was that it lasted so long.

Presumably a dodgy component, as that was 3 Ferrari engine failures in 1 race... 1 didn't even make the start.

Easy race for Red Bull. That's what they needed - a nice simple drive from lights to flag.

Rosberg, Kubica and Sutil did well, and Alguersuari was good. Hamilton did well too (though rather easier for them with their straight-line speed advantage). Button was found lacking. Started ahead of most of his rivals and finished behind them, ended up battling against an ailing Ferrari. Opportunity missed. Williams were shocking too.

Congrats to Virgin and HRT for strong finishes.
