I am interested in getting some feedback on this, to see when the majority of you think the best races were.

So, which GP and why?

For me, the Japanese GP in 2005 is unparalleled. The way Schumacher, Alonso and Raikkonen fought through the pack once the drivers championship had been sealed is the sort of driving I wish I could see every fortnight. As a Kimi fan, obviously this race holds sweet memories for me and I remember being 13, watching it in the early hours of the morning and screaming silently so as not to wake up my parents.

EDIT: If anyone has the above race recorded, with the original commentary from ITV, i'd be very grateful if you'd upload it somewhere for me. I have a very poor quality version that I found on torrent, it's only 270mb and the sound is extremely out of sync.

Brazil 2008 given what hung on it, even down to the final corner. It was a cracking race in itself too.

Brazil 2003 for the race alone - even the most optimistic fan couldn't have forecast the way it would turn out.

Suzuka 2005 was good too.

Silverstone 2003 I really enjoyed - Rubens of all people showing how to do the overtaking, and in some style.

Brazil 2001 with Monty just destroying Schumacher... then Verstappen destroying Montoya.

China 2007 (Yeah thats where hamilton belongs)

Silverstone 03 would high up. Despite the WDC win Suzuka 2000 would be high, but following suit with most of the posts so far, im gonna have to cave to my fanboyism and say Hungary 06.

Monza 2003, the tension and the master keeping it cool

Suzuka 2003, the comebacks from the Schumachers and the fierce battles

Brasil 2007, Kimi winning the championship from the small chance he had (one of the best title wins ever without a doubt)

Malaysia 2001, Schumacher and Ferrari scaring the hell out of everybody

Brasil 2006, Schumacher coming fromt he back

Hungary 2006, Jensons first win

last but not least, Monza 2000, Schumacher heading for his first Ferrari title with strong determination

Hockenheim 2000, Rubens' first F1 win in such unbelievable circumstances. He started 18th on the grid, then lucked in when the rain started coming down in the later laps. A very emotional moment for him and the fans!

Sepang 2001, Schumacher showing everyone how to drive in the rain.

Australia 2003, everyong thought the Ferraris would dominate but half the field starting on wet tyres in intermdiate conditions, a non-stop order swap in the early laps, then Montoya taking the lead and spinning off to give David Coulthard his last ever Grand Prix win in the first race of the season.

Silverstone 2003, pure gold classic entertainment! More overtaking than the rest of the season put together.

Magny-Cours 2004, if only for the incredible statistic that accompanied it. Schumacher fighting through the field in not the best car, to beat Raikkonen in the dying laps and be crowned a seven-time World Champion in record time.

Interlagos 2006, Schumacher's last race, for the sheer value of "How the hell is he going that much faster than everyone else!?"

Interlagos 2008, the most dramatic title fight in history IMHO. Yes, even more so than Senna/Prost in '88. Last corner of the last lap!

---

There are undoubtedly some more classic races that I have forgotten, but these are the ones which leap to mind for me. If I had to pick a favourite out of all the favourites, it would be Silverstone 2003. The whole race was just FUN to watch.

Two stand out for me:

Suzuka 2005.
Kimi opening a can of whoop-ass on an entire field that included Michael Schumacher and the newly-crowned World Champ.

Hockenheim 2000.
Rubens brilliantly winning his first race with a succession of electrifying passing moves during the opening stint and then an awesome display of wet-weather driving as he drove for lap after lap through a soaking Stadium section on slick/grooved tyres with the lowest downforce settings he'd raced that car with at the time, and still kept going quick enough to maintain his lead over Mika on each wet/dry lap. Plus so many other crazy things that happened during that epic race.

Locke, aren't you meaning Magny Cours 2002 and MS winning his 5th Championship?

Really difficult question but I'll give it my best shot.

Germany 2000 - A great drive by Barrichello to win his first Grand Prix. He was lucky to make up some time when the Safety Car was deployed but ultimately it was his gutsy decision to stay out on dry tyres that brought home the victory.

Brazil 2001 - As Gav has already mentioned - Montoya showing Schumi who's boss and his runaway lead eventually being destroyed by Verstappen. Coulthard monstering Schumacher in the wet with a 3-wide overtake into Turn 1 (which I believe gets overlooked far too much by the Hakkinen/Schumacher/Zonta overtake). This race was also the first we really saw of Heidfeld proving his worth in tricky conditions to take his first podium.

Brazil 2003 - Had some great racing for the top positions throughout the entire race. Plus, who could have predicted the end result - although it is particularly sad that a lot of people don't recognise Fisichella really earned that victory by some decisive strategy and taking advantage of Raikkonen at the right moment.

Indianapolis 2003 - A completely mixed up wet/dry race at the height of a 3-way battle for the championship, which ultimately ended Montoya's chances of victory.

Brazil 2008 - Possible contender for the best race ever in my opinion. So much tension and suspense rested on this race. Massa performed faultlessly throughout the entirity and then came that pass into the final corner. Could anyone have scripted a more exciting ending?

So yes, I like mixed conditions and I like Brazil. :-)

There are others I enjoyed massively too:

Suzuka 2000 - Great to see MS finally do it with Ferrari after so long trying, a very emotional moment.

Brazil 2003 - Amazing crazy race, great for the sport and for the fans, so much going on all at once from start to finish, even down to the winning car catching fire in parc ferme.

Spa 2004 - Loads happening all race, broke up the monotony of what had been a dull season up to that point. Excellent drive by Kimi too.

Shanghai 2006 - Great drive by MS to snatch a win from under Alonso's nose and fire up the title battle to boiling point.

Nurburgring 2007 - Insane start with the rain flooding the track, the first red-flagging of a GP for 6 years, Markus Winkelhock leading his first GP, Fernando's brilliant charge as the rain fell at the end.

Interlagos 2008 - Sheer craziness, no script that good could've been written. Insane, just insane.

Thanks for these, i'm gonna make a point of watching every one mentioned via the season reviews and try to work out what aspect is the one reccurant.

Whether that be overtaking, strategy or just action/crashes. I want to know what you seem to think makes a race memorable and whether it IS simply down to ability to overtake.
