Found this amusing article on less gifted/fortunate f1 drivers over the years :)

Chanoch Nissany
After taking up motor-racing as a hobby at the grand old age of 38, it should have been no surprise that Nissany was 13 seconds off the pace when he made his F1 debut with Minardi during practice for the 2005 Hungarian Grand Prix. He reportedly said over the radio: "Guys, I'm coming in, I'm having too much grip." Well that will tend to happen in an F1 car…

anyone remember this guy? how have I missed him!? :D

Those 'top ten' are clearly written by someone with recent F1 knowledge, but very little historical knowledge.

And even with this hefty criticism being levelled at the author, he STILL managed to miss Riccardo Rosset!

I would have swapped Rosset for Tuero, Tuero wasn't that bad

Even if we're just discussing recent F1 history here: Tuero and Inoue made that list but Giovanni Lavaggi, Gregor Foitek, Ralph Firman and Bernd Schneider didn't? OOKKK.

Of course, as well as the outright failures discussed here, there's the drivers who failed miserably to live up to expectations, like Michael Andretti and Alex Zanardi.

Where is Piquet, Mazzacane and Yoong?

Kimi, so, Massa Fernando Sebastian is faster than you. Can you confirm you understood that message?

There are another 10 worse than Rosset too. Hardly the most talented guy in the world, and certainly an F1 reject, but a million miles from the top 10 worst careers. Top 10 in the past 12 years, yes, but that's about it.

He's clearly focussed on recent drivers, but even if you're looking at the past 2 decades, as he seems to have done, how can Tuero be classed as worse than Lavaggi, who somehow didn't even make the list? I'm fairly sure he never beat his teammate in qualifying, and I'm not even sure he qualified better than last (when he made the 107% at all).

I'd argue that if there was a top ten worst F1 articles at the end of this year, this would be quite near the top. The guy clearly doesn't know anything pre-2000 without resorting to F1 Rejects (which isn't a bad thing in itself... but don't base an opinionated journalistic piece around it!).

I think we can all agree it's a rubbish list.

Ralph Firman wasn't all that bad, was he?

I'm missing Tarso Marquez on that list too.

If you're talking strictly F1 careers, then Firman and Marquez came off pretty badly, but both were OK drivers who never really made anything of their chance.

Still, at least Firman got to be a stuntman for Pierce Brosnan.

I agree, when you say that who wrote this doesn't have much historical knowledge.

So, here's a list of the worst in F1 history.

Enjoy. It also has a list for the worst teams too.

Yes, they definitely deserved a run.

I'd say Badoer was a bit hard done by to get onto the list, I think a lot of the one/two race careers from the 70s in particular were much worse than his.

Badoer wasa very credible lower-team driver for many years. Being so rubbish at Ferrari unfairly threw him into the limelight.

Marques was another driver who was pretty good, but only ever drove for Minardi. When his team-mates were Katayama and Alonso, two very highly rated drivers, you can't really criticise him for failing to beat them. Indeed, he beat Katayama on several occasions. He managed a couple of giant-killing feats in qualifying too; in 1997, for example, he qualified 6th at Jerez in his Minardi.

I think it's a little easy to just name several Minardi drivers, just because they had a slow car. Surely, some named drivers deserve to be on the list, but Tuero wasn't that bad. I think he surprised a lot of people with his pace, at an age of just 18! I think he could have stayed in Formula 1 a bit longer. But Tuero himself concluded that Formula 1 just wasn't his cup of thea. A shame really...

Piquet wasn't good, but comparing him with drivers like that... it's not like Piquet finished every race 7 laps down and never took any points...

Agreed, I remember that dreadful Nurburgring day!

What a race though

I remember being so happy as Johnny crossed the line :)

That end still gets me a bit even now

It annoyed me greatly that Ralf didn't win that race. He drove an absolute stonker.

From f1rejects.com:

All a former Formula One driver needs to do to escape eligibility for this site is to have been successful in F1. Specifically, they must have scored ...
• a 4th, 3rd, 2nd or 1st place, or
• a 5th place, plus any other top-6 result, or
• three or more 6th places
How hard can that be? Very!

I had to double-check this, but Piquet had that podium in Hockenheim in 2008. So... he surprisingly has the first requirement not to be on f1rejects...

I think Piquet bypasses that eligibility test though, because of the greater negative impact of his career on F1.

So not the worst on performance, but in terms of career as a whole, definitely in the top 10 I would say.

Also, while his cars weren't great, they were better than some of the terrible cars that finished several laps down.

You can't be classified when you've crashed inside the first quarter of the race.
