Silverstone unveils new Stowe Complex

16 November 2009

The British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC), owners of Silverstone, have revealed the new Stowe Complex, which is due to be completed by next March. The area boasts - as well as a 1.15-mile circuit - test facilities, new pit garages and hospitality areas.

With MotoGP heading to the Northamptonshire venue in 2010 and Formula One also possibly staying, the Stowe Complex is the first part of a £7m overhaul which is currently in progress; the changes will also include modifications to the Grand Prix circuit ahead of the MotoGP race in mid-June.

As well as presenting a test track, the Stowe Complex includes a three-lane irrigated wet handling pad to simulate varying levels of grip, from standard wet tarmac to sheet ice.

The new hospitality units, designed to serve both the Stowe Complex and South Circuit, include feature roof terraces for viewing purposes plus meeting rooms and fully-functional kitchens. The interiors of both buildings can be modified in order to suit the party using the facilities at any given time.

Including the latest additions, Silverstone now has five different track configurations.

Full details of Silverstone's Stowe Complex can be seen here: [www.brdc.co.uk]

Not enough yet IMHO. They need far more than a new complex with "fully functioning kitchens" to convince Mr. Ecclestone that they're serious.

It doesn't have anything to do with the GP I don't think. This will only benefit teams testing or racing on the Stowe circuit, will it not? Or is this the overhaul which was being talked about a couple of years back, with the S/F being moved to before Abbey?

The update that is moving the S/F to before Abbey has been redone, and it's now for the MotoGP event.

It is a modification of the Stowe Circuit, not the GP circuit.

Ahh! Thankyou for highlighting that Dave.

I didn't know the Stowe Circuit itself was an isolated inner circuit - I assumed the attachment to Stowe meant it formed part of the actual corner complex.

I was trying to get my head around the proposed paddock and pitlane being on the Hanger Straight when looking at that diagram way above LOL!

I thought they were actually doing the old southern circuit, which cuts off the top of the circuit and runs Stowe - Vale - Club - Abbey 1 - Ireland - Becketts - Chapel, so I got confused as to what it was too. Took me a minute to realise they actually meant to the Stowe circuit, which at the moment is simply a ribbon of tarmac and a portacabin really.

Yeah the drawing could've been clearer if they put it's relation to the rest of the site/track.

I am being picky purely because I am an architecture student and I have a thing with incorrect plans/sections/elevations and details ;)
