2010 Formula One season [Huge update on page one]

Posted by madotter
The F1 website says that the Mercedes GP team is a new entry, not a continuation of the 1954/55 entry...

I can't see why this is the case, as its not like Lotus where it is a completely different entry - its actually the same company...

Technically the Mercedes GP entry is considered a new entry. But if you have to trace the roots of the team, it would be the 1970 entry of Tyrrell that has sired the present team.

It's only after we've lost everything, that we are free to do anything.

So your saying that if a leaves F1 then reutrns they shouldnt carry on from before?

Surely they should be considered the team of before.

No, technically it's Tyrrell with a name change, the old Mercedes was an entirely different team. That's why the new Lotus won't carry on with the old Lotus' results.

So Honda, who was btw the exactly the same team as Mercedes, shouldn't have carried on the old stats?

I've lost it now, but there's bound to be some sort of logic behind it :P

i think they should carry on the old stats... if the company remains the same (tyrrell i.e. was sold to BAR and dismantled... it doesn't exist anymore... Ken is dead... so any team with that name is a new one)...

Honda and Mercedes just came back to F1... it's not a new team...

So with the F1's logic, if Toyota buy Virgin at the end of the year, they would become a new entry...

that's interesting, I'd never heard that before.

So if lotus won the constructors WC, or mercedes for that matter, what would the records file it as? Lotus 2010? Or just Lotus?

Jenson drives it like he owns it; Lewis drives it like he stole it

Probably Team Lotus and Lotus Racing.

As for Mercedes, I'm not sure.

well... at least in Forix and Grand Prix Guide, Lotus and Mercedes carry on old stats... that's enough for me... they're my source for everything...

Team Lotus. They'd just add the the success to Lotus's previous achievements. It was the same when Renault re-entered as a constructor in 2002 - they picked up where the previous Renault team had left off in 1985. They had the same name, so they were regarded by the history books as being the same team. That it was in fact a completely different team made no difference.

But Sato was always an aggressive driver and good to watch (Canada 2007 on Alonso), even if he ended up alongside Trulli in Japan before being disqualified for the crash.
