Jordan had very few sponsors when Heidfeld drove for them. I think Pantano maybe took some sponsorship money...which soon run out giving Jordan an excuse to boot him out. Glock had some kind of personal backing from Deutche Post or something.

I thought it was Nick who bought Deutche post buyt your probably right!

It should also be mentioned that Nick happily drove for Williams for a fraction of the price Webber was ;-)! Depsite being more than a match Nick kept his mouth shut and got the job done nad collected more points.

No... Deutche post was a Jordan sponsor from before the days of Heidfeld... from the 2001 season (or maybe 2000). They pulled out at the end of 2003 I think. I'm pretty sure they were a personal sponsor for Glock, he had them during F3, his brief time with Jordan and I think also at Cart, maybe even during his time as test driver for BMW.

I presume it's Nick himself who's put himself in this position. I fully expect he was holding out for the Merc drive, and that's gone, and as a result he's forced himself into a corner by having to hold out for the Renault drive.

I guess he's had enough of being in mid field teams. Maybe he told himself top team or no F1.

Now I wonder if MS's neck injury surfaces should he suddenly not be near the front half of the grid. MS will not want to race if he isn't competitive!

That may well be the case (in regard to Heidfeld).

Would be a big risk for Nick if he signs as 3rd driver for Mercedes in the hope of Schumi not racing for whatever reason.

I can't envisage Schumacher not being competitive. And his GP2 test seems to have confirmed his fitness. Testing the F1 car in Feb should only make it better for him.

He isn't Nigel Mansell! :P
I highly doubt that MS will be fazed or bothered in any way if Merc aren't on the pace in Bahrain for whatever reason. He's made a commitment to Merc and he hasn't made it lightly, so we can be assured he'll honour it. If there are difficulties with the car he'll fight through them and overcome them, just like he did at Ferrari. He definitely won't run away from them.

Shame for Heidfeld, but I don't think it is the last we see of him!

With a bigger grid, the field is bound to be more apart, so a longer track will prevent from lapping cars early on. Other than that I can't see any other practical reason.

Its neither made it worse or better, but if it provides more field-spread for a larger grid then thats a good thing imo.
