2010 Formula One season [Huge update on page one]

Bugger me, that's a surprise! It was always possible Pedro could return, but I always thought it would be with Campos if anybody.
Interesting to see some of the more experienced drivers making a comeback.

Indeed, quite a surprising move.

He did show some promise in his brief McLaren stints, but I doubt he will have too much to offer in 2010.

He will certainly help Kobayashi develop though, which is a good thing.

Unbelievable! Ok, granted the drivers left weren't quite earth shattering, but there was still good talent around, surely Sauber could have done better than this.

It is not that much of a surprise for me to be honest. de la Rosa has many experience, after his many years at McLaren. It will be a good thing for developping the Sauber-car. But still, what if he doesn't perform well in the races? Testing is 1 thing, but racing on the other hand....

He should race in the middle park, like all of his career

De la Rosa was a poor driver in his prime. Why on Earth have Sauber signed someone who is well past their not-too-impressive peak?

Only four seats left! Well... Five if you don't include Alguersurai at Toro Rosso. Although he is apparently going to be there...

Red Bull insists Jaime Alguersuari will stay at Toro Rosso despite failing to confirm his contract.

Sebastian Buemi was named as a driver for the team in November but Alguersuari is still waiting on a finalised contract. Bruno Senna was linked to the drive recently, after it emerged that his Campos team was still looking for funding to make the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix. However, Red Bull's motorsport consultant Dr Helmut Marko has rubbished the Senna rumours and set the record straight.

"It's not true, I've never heard about it," he told Italian website 422race.com. "It will be Alguersuari. It's just some contractual details that have to be solved, but generally it's Alguersuari.

With the Toro Rosso seats taken, there are five remaining spaces in F1 2010: Two at US F1, one at Campos, one at Renault and one at Sauber.

Jose Maria Lopez remains a front-runner for a US F1 drive and is expected to be bringing as much as US$8 million to the team in payment. Briton James Rossiter has also been rumoured to be in talks with the team, but no solid information about a deal has been reported. Team boss Peter Windsor has said he is in no rush to make an announcement.

Campos is looking for a pay driver to bolster its funds, meaning Vitaly Petrov, who has plenty of sponsorship behind him, is a prime candidate. In a recent interview team owner Adrian Campos said that the money he will receive from his second driver would all but complete the team's budget.

Renault is currently assessing five drivers for its remaining seat, with Nick Heidfeld, Romain Grosjean, Takuma Sato, Petrov and Ho-Pin Tung all understood to be on the list. The team said it will have a driver confirmed by its launch on January 31.

Giancarlo Fisichellais now the favourite to race at Sauber, after reports that Pedro de la Rosa would be announced as its driver last week proved to be unfounded. News that de la Rosa will take part in the opening test for McLaren also suggests he is out of the running. Nevertheless, team boss Peter Sauber insists the seat is still "open" and that he isn't under pressure to decide.

What a shame for Heidfeld! Looks like he has just been bumped well out for anything.

Renault look to be his best chance, but money talks. Give that seat to Petrov.

I bet he will be the reserve McLaren driver, given he drive for them for a few Goodwood appearances. Plus he is German. Can only help. To replace De La Rosa.

Or would he take a test reserve role at Sauber, with a good chance De La Rosa will be shite and outed before mid-season?

i think he will get the maximum of the car, and maybe he will be ahead kobayasi in a lot of races, don't forget the lastest races with mclaren in 2006 where he did it better than his teamate...

He did a few good races but he didn't go better than Kimi

It's a showcar using RB2 chassis I think

It's the demo car they were using for a demo in Canada.

I hear the FIA are planning to alter certain tracks to include hidden lakes just out of view from the barriers :P

No surprises, I really couldn't see a 7 time champ taking the #4 under a driver who has yet to win a race.

I love the sneaky wording - Michael has a preference for "odd numbers". That means that, as long as he's in one of the top teams, he'll always be the team's number 1 driver

Liverpool Waterfront Circuit (WIP)

Looks like the 2010 livery on an F61. But yeah, that looks like being their choice of livery for the season then. With Alonso now driving it, it makes sense for Santander to step up the presence of their sponsorship on the car.
