Wasnt it someone on F1tech who wrote a small peice about it, as a joke but then some journalists not realising it was a joke, saw and did this article, im pretty sure that is the case.

Quote from the article:
Speculation is, that the “dead zone” is an aerodynamic area, yet uncharted, where Bernoulli’s principals no longer apply and where the dynamic pressure is zero. Thus the name dead zone.

Oh. My.

My brain is close to imploding just thinking about the number of severe theoretical oversights that this sweeping, unsubstantiated statement makes.

GP Update is suggesting that Fisichella will get the second Sauber drive: [f1.gpupdate.net]

One *assumes* Renault will look to Heidfeld then. That is, based on what *I* would do, which may not mean a thing...

lol,

the article does make it sound like mclaren have somehow found a way to 'switch off' the laws of physics.

that being the case you do wonder why they're wasting their time with F1. surely a joint venture with virgin to fit spaceship 2 with warp drive would be a better use of their apparent extraordinary talents.

Wouldn't you think Virgin Galactic (ie SpaceShip 2 aka Enterprise) would rather share technology with Virgin Racing? ;)

Quote from BBC 606 "The vibes coming out of Maranello about the 2010 car are not good."

Anyone else heard any news about this? Or is this just an unsubstantiated comment?

i'd heard something along those lines but i think its just the usual rubbish that flies round the blogs and on twitter.

if i recall, there were similar stories a few years ago, then they promptly turned up and demolished the opposition.

i'd wait until the tests in feb before taking any of that seriously.

Do you know if Jenson will be using this helmet for 2010?

it would be great if ferrari have an average car.

as much as im hoping rosberg sticks his neck out this year i still think its going to be Alonso's crown. what he made of that dogged renault makes you wonder what he could do with an on form ferrari.

i think you're taking it a bit too literally. the article was obviously written by layman when it comes to physics. i guess the whole point is the follwing: if you redirect the flow of air around a wing by an aerodynamically more efficient surface so that there's only static air (relative to the wing) or a minimal flow of air around the wing the wing creates none or very little drag (and no downforce obviously). while bernoulli's priciple still holds true it's of little use in that case as it just tells you that the overall pressure on the wing is the static pressure (as the name says dynamic pressure is zero with no flow relative to the wing). he probably wrote "no longer applies" to emphasize that bernoulli's principle get's unimportant when looking at the impact of the wing on the car's performance.

used to be GPGSL's Nick Heidfeld

Why? I admit I am a Ferrari fan, but surely it is good for F1 to have possibly four teams competitive for the title.

I've heard the opposite that Ferrari are very confident of the 2010 car due to the early abandonment of the failure F2009.

Will be interesting to see how it is, but you would expect them to make a decent challenger for this year, just look at BMW last year....

2013 - Nando must come through..

I knew he was a candidate, but I hadn't really expected they'd take him on!

Apparantly he has a lot of Repsol money behind him, and with their being no clash with Petronas now I can't really think of any other reason they would have chose them.

He can also bring a lot of McLaren secrets back to the Ferrari camp. ;)
