Nick, I don't think McLaren themselves are aware of that...

Yes (at least more so than McLaren, as alluded to above) ;)

I can't see Kovalainen troubling the points starting from 18th. And even if he does, Kimi could end up challenging the Brawns and the top 5 if he can gain a few places with KERS at the start.

i know i'm fighting a losing argument, but why would anyone in their right mind go anywhere near a F1 forum, or site for that matter, if they wanted to avoid spoilers?

Long debated, but if the rules are there, you might as well stick to them.

Bring up a thread to discuss it before 2010 if you feel it should be amended. :)

Personally, I don't care so long as the title doesn't contain a spoiler (keeping in mind the site shows recent forum activity).

slightly off topic but the last decade of f1 (2000-2009) was the first one wihtout a crash that ended fatal for a driver. that's quite impressive imo

used to be GPGSL's Nick Heidfeld

Yes, it is impressive - but we must also consider the two marshalls that were killed at Monza in 2000 and Melbourne in 2001.

Isn't the period 1995-2005 a decade aswell?

"A decade is a period of ten years. (...) The term usually refers to a period of ten years starting at a multiple of ten. For example, "the 1950s" refers to 1950 through to 1959 (inclusive). In English, "decade" can also be used to specify any period of ten years. For example, "During his last decade, Mozart explored chromatic harmony to a degree rare at the time"." (wiki)

from 1982 to 1994 no driver died in an official Formula 1 Race. Elio De Angelis died in a crash in a private test in 1986.

Thank god the safety improved a lot

look at the 70s, 60s, 50s. At least 1 driver dead per season...
In 1980 with the "ground effect", the accident weren´t a lot but they were heavier (ex. Clay Regazzoni´s crash at Long Beach)

Rubens could have signed with McLaren for 2010 if he hadn't rushed to sign with Williams back in September! :(

Well at least he says he's fulfilling the dream of driving for his favorite team.

Who knows, like Gav said, these are the rules though (even if they do cater for blatant stupidity).

Anyway.... Looks like things will really fall into place once Kimi finally decides how he's going to spend next season, I think by this time next week, we SHOULD be seeing a much larger picture than we are now.

Really? I don't think he was a chance there. Heidfeld, Glock, Rosberg would all have been considered before him I would think.

Furthermore, McLaren would have noticed that Rubens was complaining about possible driver-preference at Brawn, imagine what he would do at McLaren.

I would much rather see Nick Heidfeld in that Mclaren. Rubens has had his chance at the top, and besides at least at Williams he will be the lead driver and providing an invaluable service to Nico and Frank! If anyone can help contribute to make that car go quicker it will be Rubens.

As for Nick, what has he got to do or prove to the top guys?! Have to say I rate him so so much higher than Kubica and it would be a massive shame if Nick is not in a top drive next year. More than that I would say Mclaren need him, desperatly! Also, we need someone to give Lewis a run for his money in the wet and Nick Heidfeld certainly would! Still I am stuck between Nick and Kimi. I think in the end I would say Nick, because he'd almost free (relative to Kimi!) and he is every bit as good IMO and yet to have a go at the top.

Chet, youre right with Heidfeld, look at last grand prix, they started 7th and 8th and Heidfeld finished 5th and Kubica 10th or 9th.

Nick is one of the most underrated drivers. Robert is good, but he hasn´t reached his top level yet. He needs more experience

Rubbish. If McLaren wanted Heidfeld they would've signed him in 2001 instead of Raikkonen. Why would they go for him now in the same situation given that he's past his prime and has never set the world alight. McLaren arent strapped for cash, and with Santander footing a lot of the bill, I'd say the sticking points in their negotiations would be the amount of freedom Kimi has to do things like rallying and the amount of PR days. Dunno if Kimi has any personal sponsors but they'd have to go too.

Heidfeld has done a mediocre job for the past 10 seasons and should've been put into retirement years ago.

Past his prime? Based on what? Rubens is driving as good as ever and he's 39!

He hasnt set the world alight, but aside from Alonso, and Lewis who has??

Kimi has been poor the last couple of seasons, very poor and inconsistant. He has shown some speed and aggression this latter part of the season but once his heads not in then he's nowhere. Nick has season after season shown he can be as quick as anyone, he has fantastic race pace and he can bring the car home and he sure can overtake. He has the qualities Heikki lacks, but also the positives Heikki has. Mclaren need a driver will be there to win when Lewis cant, and well there to win anyway! For a fraction of the price Nick is by far the better deal IMO.
