Good point, I meant the seat number as it stands - but obviously Button would take his #1.

Oh no. I was really hoping that Raikkonen will go back to Mclaren next year!

I wouldn't give up yet, I think it is just posturing on McLaren's, and Button's, part.

Why not? 2 is better than 5.

If Button does sign with McLaren he will obviously get number 1, if Nico Rosberg gets first driver what number would the cars be? 3 & 4 as they are Constructors champions or will they be whatever number Nico would bring?

Thanks,
Iain.

The number has absolutely nothing to do with Nico. Button is the only driver that can bring a number with him.

As Brawn, it would have been 3-4, like Renault in 2007, as they are constructors. However, as Mercedes, they might be seen as a new team, and get 26-27. From recent years, we have seen examples of takeovers both been giving the numbers of the existing team, and re-assigned new numbers, so its hard to say.

Why is it the same thing about numbers every single year again? It's really not that @#$%& hard.

Could we see Raikkonen partner Rosberg next year at Mercedes-Benz? That would be a fantastic line-up!

Wait till the debate starts about whether Alonso or Massa gets #7 ;) ;)

Glock joins Manor for 2010

Timo Glock has been announced as Manor Grand Prix's first driver for its maiden Formula 1 World Championship assault next year.

The 27-year-old German joins the British team following two seasons with Toyota.

Glock, who had been linked with a move to Renault for 2010, finished 10th in this year's championship.

More to follow...

I can't see this being a very good career move.

If an offer from Renault was on the table, I think they would have been an infinitely better option, even if it required waiting a month until their future was 100% secure.

Kovy back to Renault then?

OR

The supposed Heidfeld/Kimi/Button trio hovering around the Mercedes/Mclaren seats (assuming Nico is a Mercedes definite as is highly expected) could see Nick to Renault, Button to Mclaren and Kimi to Mercedes. Mercedes I gather have more funds, if that really is the main reason.

Heidfeld and Kubica are solid and quiet - just what Renault need to reprofile themselves.

I think Heikki will be lucky to get a seat at all to be honest, certainly not a big runner team. All the new teams are proposing new talent, so maybe he might end up at USF1? Trulli is likely to head to Toyota in NASCAR. Campos, with Senna perhaps? That'd be useful to help Bruno settle and learn car setup etc.

Kimi wont go to Mercedes, he and his managers has said many times it's McLaren or no F1 at all....Lately rumours would suggest he will retire from F1 but those are only rumours and I still won't believe that Button will end up in McLaren.Kovalainen will maybe go to Renault now or maybe some smaller team, he is a race winner unlike Heidfeld so he does deserve a seat in F1 even if he didnt manage to give the results for McLaren.

If I were Renault, of all the drivers still available for them, I think Trulli would be the best option. While he has his off days, he showed quite a few times this year that he has still got great pace.

Also, with Toyota's demise, isnt the Panasonic sponsorship now up for grabs too? That could provide a nice boost to one of the new teams.

That was before Brawn's 'top team' status became almost cemented by the buyout.

Kimi has surely known for some time already that Mercedes has bought Brawn as has McLaren so this news about mercedes gp wont change a thing about Kimi's future.seems funny that both Mercedes and McLaren are fighting about Button (if that's the truth what media speaks)or maybe McLaren or Mercedes has it drivers clear alreaydy...either we will see Kimi driving McLaren or we wont see him at F1 at all.

From what I remember of reading between the lines of the press release at the start of the year, Panasonic was quite reluctant to stick around even in 2009, but did so to keep the team afloat, so I don't know if they will join any other teams - for now at least. They might just expand their track sponsorship, or leave F1 altogether.
