The Official 2009 Singapore Grand Prix Thread ***SPOILERS***

Is it just me or have FIA something against germans since 2004?

Kimi, so, Massa Fernando Sebastian is faster than you. Can you confirm you understood that message?
I hate really those FIA & Whitney's management!.

Rosberg lossing the rear end on whiteline just a bit.. then a drive through penalty for thats unfair though! he did not gain any time their, infact he lost a bit of time their!
and webber overtaking alonso on 4 wheels abit outside (Heavy penalty i think) still unfair! F1 Now are to strict with those FIA.... i tell you what if senna is alive he could rid of this mindless FIA RULES ON F1. anyways, brake failure for webber!(championship over!) nice pits&drive by button though! ahead of his teammate. and having problems on brakes on the ending stint of race. nice drive by timo and alonso.

How boring.

Why is it ok for Kimi to pass 2 cars at Spa off track but not Webber?
Excuse me, but did it end already?

I've to admit this time, that 09 edition of Singapore was an incredible spectacle of nothing, atmosphere built for anti-climax during the whole of these 2 hours.
Yes, the first thing that needed to be changed is to clean the track before the race weekend - you could see from Sutil's onboard cameras that you couldn't even go a little bit offline if you wanted to overtake.

Maybe it's just a fact Rosberg crossed the white line and Vettel speeded in the pitlane. Hard to get eh? You can say oh, it's a mistake, they didn't win time with it, but crossing the white line = crossing the white line, speeding in the pitlane = speeding in the pitlane, end.

Yep. Rules is rules. Was an advantage gained? Was it deliberate? It doesn't matter, what they did was against the regulations.

The dust isn't even a tiny issue compared to the braking. As we seen today this circuit has fast straights and lots of braking zones. But you can't make a pass when the brakes are so powerful. 190mph down to cornering speed in 70m?

I've said it once, and I'll say it again - regulate the materials allowed in the discs and pads and you'll see far more overtaking.

what a totally bollox race lol! snooze fest if ever i've slept through one

Lol, this is the first time I've EVER fell asleep in a race. Must be the whole night thing! I look forward to seeing Lewis at Suzuka in an F1 car for the 1st time. Bloody bored of the championship race though.

I nearly fell asleep, that would have been the first time since USA 1991.

Everyone just seems to want to help Button get the championship.
Exactly, it's so ruddy annoying. When ever Jenson cocks up, all the 3 around just seem to fail drastically. It's just making it so dull. Bring Rubens, Vettel and Mark right to the top with Jenson down in 11th or 10th or whatever, it'd be an interesting race!
How can they relate Kimi at Spa to webber.
Webber got brilliant drive from going off the track and didnt lose anytime though Kimi at Spa, we could see he got wheelspin, went sideways and its a longer route.

Webber didnt lose time and infact the route he took was shorter to the following right hander.

Good solid drive by Lewis but you can hardly call it great, in fairness he wasn't pushed for most of the race, this was an endurance test for him but nothing more. The opposition pwned themselves.

Great drive from Glock, he punched way above the Toyota's weight, and good drive from Alonso too. The sooner Alonso is back in a top car the better, IMO.

It's not often I feel compelled to say this about a Grand Prix, but God, this one bored me.

Result was the same though, Kimi in Spa passed 2 cars off the track and lined up the 3rd. Has he not gone off the track he would not have passed 2 cars and lined up the 3rd :). Webber passed Alonso and both were off the track, plus Alonso ran wide and the 1st turn so he should not have even been there. Anyway whats done is done but I can understand why Webber is upset.

Sutil got a $20,000 fine for the crash today.

And got overtaken himself, clearly showing the 2 others disadvantaged themselves more than anything else.

That said, I agree. I defended Kimi at Spa (and will feel the same next year - La Source should be that way), but if Kimi got no penalty there, then Webber shouldn't today.

I said that going extra-wide off the track wasn't the same as plainly cutting it, and it isn't, but judging by today he should have been penalised.

And you can bet Webber, being a senior driver and leader of the drivers association, will let the FIA and the stewards know this, so hopefully some clarity will come of it.

As for Rosberg, I really felt for him. The bloke made a mistake, did everything he could to rectify that mistake (bar reversing on track) and lost out through it, yet still got a penalty. He is a victim of us all calling for more black and white regulations and punishments, and while that was a good thing, I still felt for the bloke. It wouldn't have made much difference (he'd have still finished 2nd or 3rd) had the safety car not come out the lap afterwards.*

He drove a fantastic race, both before and after, the latter a credit to him.

* Speaking of which, what the hell was Sutil thinking of doing that? I was impressed with Nick's diplomatic reaction later, as I would have been spitting blood.

Agreed, that was a pretty noobish error on Sutil's part. Feel really bad for Nick.

I agree about Nico, I felt for him too. It was a shame he made that one small mistake at such a critical moment, as otherwise he drove a flawless belter of a race.

Regarding the Championship battle, at least we got a spark of form from Button towards the end of the race, otherwise it was pretty unimpressive from both Brawn drivers all weekend IMO, and not the kind of performance you expect from title contenders. While it's almost a given now that JB will do it, even if his form picks up again in the next 3 races, he's still done a Damon Hill Mk II.

This year's Championship battle is proving to be a total anticlimax after the last few ones TBH, it's the least exciting one at least since 2005.

I'm amazed at Webbers penalty. If he had stayed inside the kerbs then he'd have been driven into by Alonso. The reason he made the pass wasn't an advantage gained from running wide, but Alonso screwing up the corner. Webber may have been trying to pass, but when he actually got to the corner all he was doing was taking avoiding action really, and he got penalised.

That said, he was poor. Vettel got a penalty and damaged his car, and was still ahead of Webber before his accident. That shouldn't have been.

I was surprised at Webber's penalty myself. First time a driver has been penalised for running too wide as opposed to cutting a corner IIRC.
