I can't see why everybody hates Paul Stoddart. I liked him. He spoke his mind, wasn't one of those corporate robots, gave new drivers a chance etc. One big downside about him is that he sold Minardi to RedBull. On the other side, Minardi was going to go broke sometime. So if it disappeared in 2005 or 2007 wouldn't have made much of a difference.

Well if it werent for him, Minardi would've gone broke at the end of 2000. He stepped in and saved the team in the short term but needed to find a more long term buyer. Enter Red Bull. If not for them, as you say, the team would've gone under. They took a win under the Red Bull flag last season so it isnt all bad...

Agreed, for better or worse he was pretty forthright and honest about things, and that was better than any PR dept. manufactured answers.

Minardi was always going to struggle to keep afloat, and it's actually a CREDIT that he was able to keep it going for as long as he did, it's not like he just lost interest and gave up (a la Midland) he realised that he simply had to do what was in the team's best interest.

"Following discussions in Munich after the Belgian GP, I can state with some certainly that I will have a team on the grid for 2010."
Interesting, don't know what teams he's talking about, perhaps, BMW, if so I hope Stoddart and Sauber have entered into a partnership, that'd be awesome!

Maybe he will be part of the rumoured Malaysia/Lotus entry. He has a previous connection with Malaysia from their sponsorship of Minardi in 2002.

Anyway, we don't know if that account is real.

Maybe he is in someway involved with BMWs buy-out. I heard an Indian consortium want to buy BMW. Since people in suits usually don't know how to manage a F1 team, they might have hired Stoddart as possible team boss.

TataF1. :D

It's not a validated account, so I'll take this with a pinch of salt until something a bit more reliable comes out.

Still, even the most ardent of Stoddart haters would prefer him to team Piquet. ;)

What I disliked about Stoddart was his whole "The World is out to get me and I've taken so many knocks that it's stopped hurting" attitude.

At the 2004 Australian Grand Prix he turned up with 2003-spec cars, and 2004-spec parts in the garage. He then proceeded to run the 2003-spec cars in Practice and tried to win an appeal allowing him to use them in the race because his team was too poor to run the 2004 parts in pre-season testing.

Unsurprisingly, the appeal was not upheld. The FIA told him to stop being a muppet and just fit the damn 2004 parts to his cars. So he did, and all was well.

Why waste time and energy pursuing an utterly pointless endeavour like that? Any team boss with half an ounce of sense would have fitted the 2004 parts in Practice and tried to get as much data from them as possible before Qualifying. But not Stoddart. Why? Because he wanted to make a point. Plain and simple. He wanted the whole World to know how financially insecure his team was and how much they were struggling. For God's sake, man, just keep your head down and get on with your job.

<correction>
That was 2005 with him bringing 2004-spec parts.

Agreed totally there. I liked his style a lot.
I'll never forget his reaction after Webber's P5 at Melbourne in 2002: "Bugger me!" :D

He is a liar who attempted to hold the sport to ransom at least once. He then went on to basicaly blackmail the CCWS owners, and then run off in a hissy fit crying like a bitch when Tony George told him to go f**k himself.

Stoddart is a god awful man and one of the worst team owners to ever be involved in any motorsport. The only man more corrupt was Tom Walkinshaw.

How can he have blackmailed the CCWS owners? He was only a teamboss, wasn't he?

He caused a split in the CCWS team owners by forcing them to fund the running of the 2 seater F1 car, otherwise he'd pull his team from the series. Kevin K folded, much to the dismay of Gerry and Paul. When CCWS eventually died, he tried the same trick on Tony George. Good old Tony G told him where to shove it, and sure enough, Stoddart went in the huff and didn't move to IRL.
