Ferrari set to announce Badoer replacement (Confirmed)

With Felipe Massa still recovering from injury, Ferrari is to set to announce its plans for the Italian Grand Prix and beyond.

Italy's La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that there are three options for Monza: the struggling Luca Badoer, Giancarlo Fisichella, or Robert Kubica.

Badoer is considered the least likely of the trio to be given the nod, given his failure to be competitive in the seat at Valencia and again last weekend at Spa Francorchamps. The candidatures of both Fisichella and Kubica meanwhile are fascinating.

Force India's Vijay Mallya is adamant the Fisichella is staying put, given his pole position and podium in Belgium and the likelihood that the VJM02 will also be quick at the ultra high-speed Monza circuit.

However, it is reported that his team owes Ferrari more than €4m dating back to the terminated engine supply agreement of last year, and that the Maranello-based might tempt Mallya by offering to forgive the debt.

Ferrari might also have something to offer BMW Sauber, who otherwise would not be interested in parting with Kubica while trying to remain competitive in order to attract a team buyer for next year.

A Sauber source told Auto Motor und Sport: "Why should we let Robert go to Ferrari? In our situation we need the best drivers possible."

According to rumours, however, releasing Kubica could guarantee the Hinwil-based team a supply of customer Ferrari V8 engines for next year.

It is clear that, if Massa had his way, he would be the occupant of the red car at Monza, but his head injuries mean that he is out for the remainder of the season.

"If it was up to him he would have been racing at Spa," the Brazilian's father Luiz Antonio is quoted as saying by Tuttosport, "but he also knows he needs to wait for the right moment. The ones who are going to decide are the doctors and Ferrari.”

Interesting thing about Fisi going for Monza, Ferrari aren't predicting a good performance at Monza due to the car's inability to ride kerbs, whereas Force India are quietly confident. Could be a real Alesi moment for Fisi if he ends up at Ferrari and finishing 8th place while watching Sutil snatch a podium or something...

Liuzzi for Force India, mark my words.

@ Lopper, yeah I'm concerned for Fisi that he's going to miss his chance to score a podium in his home race by leaving Force India! Still, would you pass up the chance to drive for Ferrari at Monza...?

Liuzzi is the only possibility for Force India. I can't think of anyone else.

Yeah!, and since ferrari has no vacant seat for fisi next year.( i dont think the 3 cars that ferrari are pushing now aren't gonna happen) he might not getting a set for another team and end up as a test driver for ferrari too.

Good to see Fisichella get a go! It will be interesting to see how he goes in comparison to Raikkonen, especially considering the car should be quite quick at some of the remaining rounds.

Also, nice to see Liuzzi get another go in F1, I always thought him and Klien in particular deserved another chance.

Fizzy in a Ferrari? Awesome!!

Good point about Force India, there's no reason they can be competitve at Monza, but still Monza and Spa are very different tracks. Perhaps they will be quick, but Mclaren/Brawn likley to be alot quicker than in Spa.

Anyway, bets for fizzy for the win? I suspect this will be his last season, so what a way to end it!

Sadly for Fisichella is that Ferrari has stopped any car development over a month ago and there won't be any new parts for the rest of the season.I think he won't be a match for Kimi but maybe to Q2 is possible :)

I was hoping Klien would get the FI seat, Liuzzi just brings nothing at all race wise. Klien at least had some flashes of being good.

so what are the benefits for Force India?

they claim that there is no financial settlement regarding this move

why would you want to loose the only driver that scored points for the team, and what is more important, doing it at the peak time of the car's development?

A $4 million Ferrari engine bill that's still outstanding? All debts erased, no further financial transactions necessary?

they still had not paid last years Ferrari engines so I think this covers it :)
Would Force India still like to keep Fisichella for next season? I suspect that if they barred him from racing for Ferrari now, they'd have absolutely zero chance of retaining him...

Vijay Mallya's level-headed attitude continues to impress me - even if he has received a nice backhander from Ferrari, it is still a very mature thing for him to do - how many other smaller teams have made a fuss when their star driver gets poached by a bigger team?

nope Fisico will stay as a Ferrari testdriver so his Force India days are over.

Stefano Domenicali has pretty much confirmed that Fisi will finish racing full-time at the end of the year: "He will be the reserve driver in 2010." It will be a perfect way to retire though, fulfilling his lifelong dream to drive for Ferrari

Also, I'd say this is the end for Badoer, even as a test driver. Ferrari need to get a young driver alongside Fisichella, e.g. Bortolotti.

Ah, thanks for confirming that.
