As a Damon fan of course, it has to be 1996, but in 1995 we had amazing races (Silverstone, Nurburgring, Spa) sadly the resuts were for the german driver...and 1991 was really great and 1985,86 and 87 were great too!!!

My favourite seasons of all time would have to be 1989(although I only watched the races from Monaco onwards) and 1990, the major Senna/Prost fallout years. The epic racing and controversial moments their feud resulted in make fantastic watching now.

I started watching F1 mid-1994 and didn't really get into in until 1996.

Having said that, the standout year for me was 1997, still early in my wtaching life. It was a truly epic season! Every single race there'd be a different two of the top 5 teams competing for victory, and it was only the consistency of Williams and Ferrari that gave them the chance to fight for the Championship.

e.g. For the win in Australia: Mclaren vs Williams; Germany: Benetton vs Jordan; etc.

Also it had Damon Hill's truly outstanding drive in Hungary, the dramatic heartache of the Nurburgring and one of the all-time great final rounds of the Championship IMHO, especially after an error with the timing left all 3 top qualifiers with an identical time.

Plus it featured some of the most gorgeous car liveries I can remember, particularly the 'Snake eyes' Jordan.

Hell yeah, 1997 without a doubt! My favourite of the recent years has been 2005, because I'm an Alonso fan.

I started watching F1 as a kid early in 1991, and went to my frist race at Silverstone 92 - mansellmania of all times to start! I was born in 1986, so that would have made me 6 year sold at the time.

Other than the 1992 season and snippets, my most earliest memorable large chunk of a race was from 1993 and either hockenheim/spa and i just remember schumachers camel benetton all over the screen.

1994 was the first season I got fully into it and understood more of what I was watching.

Favourite season, thats difficult, depends as some seasons I like merely for the car shapes and livery designs. I quite liked 1994/1995 as my favourite.

This year with BBC bringing the past races to our screens before GP weekend has probably made me realize that IMO F1's greatest decade was 1990-2000. I think that comes as the show was generally aired better for the fans at home and at the track, and I guess the only person we have to thank for that is the old little possibly senile man we call Bernie!

Ive seen many many reviews from the 70's and 80's and read a few books but on the most part its a bore. It is a terrible misconception that back then was better imo. Not that my little experience has done justice enough for me to give an opinion but it's also the general opinion I get from alot of other people about the net.

Herbert winning in the benetton.

The odd mclaren engine cover wing.

The humour of the forti's and their colour scheme.

Pacific Grand Prix.

Taki Inoue. Full stop. Lol.

First Year we saw red bull on the saubers.

Argentina.

And this livery:

Personally I think that F1 was fantastic in the 80's. The turbo era was spectacular and provided some really thrilling racing. It is however all too easy to look at the past with rose-tinted glasses and so I think you're right in the fact that the quality of the recording and production of Grands prix is much much better now than it used to be.

Argh, it's like porn without the breasts and ejaculation (almost).

Sod it... many reasons to pick something else, but the Alesi Ferrari years of '94 and '95 were something else. If only you could scrape the championship battle away and just have a Ferrari V12 soundtrack with Jean wringing its neck.

1998 for me. First year I started watching F1 full-time although I'd always been a casual Hakkinen fan. Watched Melbourne and then felt compelled to watch the rest of the season to see if he could hang on!

1991 for me, the first season i ever watched and still my favourite. The cars just looked so much nicer than today, that Williams FW14 was a thing of beauty, both in shape and livery.
