this is sad. I might not even bother to watch valancia race then, it was mighty boring last year, schumacher was only saving grace for it this year, oh well.

Renault's sponsors, they will most likely all leave if they let Alonso go to Ferrari in this season already.

I dont get why people are so shocked by the news, we all new he had neck problems due to the bike crash.

I just brushed them off as expected issues being out of the sport for a while. I fully expected him to recover and be fully fit.

I thought he'd be able to overcome his fitness issues too, but it does figure if his neck is what's giving him problems. It was the nearest thing he had to a fitness problem during his main career - I remember him having problems with a stiff neck for no particular reason after some testing he did in early '97, which Martin Brundle commented on at the time.
I think it has its roots in the huge crash he had at 130R at Suzuka in '91, compounded by his aggravation of the initial injury and his failure to give it a proper chance to heal by continuing practice as normal and then racing the following day.

Ah right Iceman, I just meant for the one race, i.e. a one-off special allowing Alonso to race in Valencia, then he'd be back to Renault.

But I'm happy to see Badoer in the Ferrari for the short-term! An Italian driving a Ferrari in F1, when was the last time that happened? Not sure it's worth giving Gene a chance as well BTW, they might as well go with one guy and stick with him for the rest of the year, for consistency. Badoer's earned his chance. :)

I'm happy for Luca, will be interesting to see how he runs.

Slightly off-topic: WHY is Valencia already being written off as a 'snooze-fest'. It has only staged 1 GP which admitidly was a stinker, but lest we forget, Spa has held boring races too.......

Valencia was perhaps the most boring thing to watch, and look at. It had no scenery or character.

At least the other tilke dromes do have some nice scenery or character and in the case of Bahrain different.

i still think that schummi is now going to train like hell to get his neck stronger, and can see him returning to the likes of spa or monza, even for a one off.

Good point Peat, regarding Valencia. I for one am actually looking forward to it. The circuit is actually pretty good for a Tilke layout, and we could get a good and unpredictable race there this year.

guuuys what about a neck !
i am interpretating you some words about michael :

"he came into his era in the end of an era of mansell and prost....
he outlived senna......
he outlasted hill ..villeneuve and hakkinen ! ! ! ! ! "

Stillll cant believe that a stupid neck pain could be such a big issue for schuey.
someone will say, he has family , wife... etc.
BUT he had it in '98 s in '99 s and so on, but was pushing so much that even once ron dennis goes to him and tells him :
i dont know how you're doing it michael , but from the outside it looks incredibly dangerous and on the limit . Be careful ! ! !

and all of a sudden his neck hurts ... pfuu.
every era has its heroes. but obviously schumi is not part of this one............. :( :( :(

according to german tv luca di montezemolo fights for having three cars per team next year and he wants schumi to drive one. christian danner said he expected schumi to drive in monza or spa.

Schumi personally is the biggest hero of the 90's and 00's along with Hakkinen

Of course I'm gutted he won't return but Badoer deserves this, and really why does Schumi need to come back

It's clear that he loves spending time with his family, why risk injuring himself now, when there's nothing to prove...

On reading n00binio's post I did a quick search and found this article from Autosport:

LdM: Well we're talking about Michael Schumacher. He is 40 years old, but he's still from another planet. I prefer the champion, even if matured, to the mediocre driver, even if he's young. Our circus needed some great input.

We're continuing to fight until every team has the right to start with three cars in the next season (and one I'd have handed over to Michael with pleasure). I prefer three McLaren and three Renault to three "whatevers". With BMW gone, there's not much to say but lots to do.

How realistic the possibility is I don't know, but it's a nice thought at least.

Luca Badoer fully deserves the seat, given the service he has given to Ferrari over the years.

Shame about Schumacher, but they were honest from the start about the neck problems.

Pity. Nice to have seen him, Vettel and Hamilton give it a go! BTW: If Schumacher did drive in Valencia, would Kimi have moved over for him...?
