If Williams can keep up with the development rate of Ferrari/Mclaren etc they have half a chance :)

Hopefully Nico can fight for the win.

I have no doubts that Nico will "drive the wheels" off the thing... it's driving the front wing off that concerns me.

Damon was past it by 1999, he was more of a burden to Jordan than anything, hence why they tried to replace him mid season with Verstappen

He retired a healthy car in his last race just because he couldn't be bothered, think he also did this on another occasion

He failed to qualify in France 99 but the stewards allowed him to start the race along with a few others

Hill even admitted to hating the new generation of cars, with the 4 grooved tyres, honestly he was a disappointment

Frentzen was a revelation that year, he worked well in the Jordan environment and the results show that

2000 and 2001 cars where less successful because of reliability issues with the Honda and because of Mike Gascoyne's involvement, which I believe was explained in another thread

Races: 163 - Wins: 23 - Pole Positions: 24 - Fastest Laps: 22
Season 9: Constructors' Champions

Lol!

Last year he was quite prone to losing a front wing or two wasnt he lol!

tbh i think more than anything it was driving too hard and expecting more from the car after the great 2007 he had. Hopefully this year things will have improved!

Indeed, Nico's been way too inconsistent in the recent past, definitely trying too hard. I just hope he's been learning from his various mistakes, and will put the lessons to good use in future.

Either contribute something to the discussion, or just shut up. And you could do worse than apologise to Ferrari2007 for that insult, ASAP.

Hopefully Nico can show what he can do finally :)

Agreed, by 1999 Damon was past it and had absolutely no interest in F1. However I do think he would have had an input over 1998 season and helped Jordan have a strong challenger for 1999. Definitely not the same input he had with Williams though.

Is there a possibility of a full on merger with Williams and Toyota? It would be an embarrasing cop-out for Toyota I guess, but if results are not forthcoming for them this year then it should be considered.

Possibly... Toyota would have to work hard at persuading Williams to let them in, though. Frank and Patrick have always been fiercely independent.

Hmm... I think he would have had more input at Jordan, for much of his time at Williams he was very much the junior.

At Jordan he was the former world champion.

Yeah I can agree with that mate, it was disappointing to see him struggle in 99, the end of 98 he had been great, I remember his defence against Schumi at Suzuka after he had driven through the field, couldn't pass Damon though :)

I can't see Toyota merging with Williams, as you say the embarrassment would be huge for the top guys at Toyota, also what would they really gain from it, the Toyota top brass would probably replace all the Williams guys anyway

The last lap pass on Frentzen for fourth and fourth in the champ for Jordan was an awesome moment, as a longtime Damon and Jordan fan. :)

@ Jim - Possibly, but at Jordan he was himself getting accustomed to cars he did not like driving.

Re the Williams thing, Williams and Head are old now, mid to late 60s...Dunno how much longer they will continue at it, but I think with both of them they will continue until they have to stop. So it's hard to know what will happen when they are no longer in control of Williams. Either way, I don't think Williams would at all be happy being seen as the new Tyrrell...if they want to avoid that then an obvious way is to start courting Toyota for something more. Obviously however, I would not like to see the Williams team, as an individual entity, disappearing from the grid.

Is this a new sponsor for Williams? If so, good news :)

Yep, since 2007 at least. They've just updated the logo and added the red tinge
