Renault Announce 2009 Drivers...

I think the same Sapo in fact I think both Alonso and Flav want a weak teamate, its the combination that gave them 2 championships in 2 years and the one that gave Ferrari 5 straight,as much as people dont like that philosophy it actually works.

Piquet can turn the quick lap but is too inconsistent. A championship-helping teammate is a driver who takes points away from the competition, that isn't Piquet's case.

You are right Guimengo he is not in Barrichello's league but Fisi didn't help Alonso nor Renault much. I mean he was a ridiculous 75 points behind Alonso in 05 and 62 in 06 thats pretty bad. So I think Renault are expecting more or less the same with Piquet.

I just don't understand how you can sign someone to return after he finished 12th in standings and made it to Q3 one time.

To be fair to Piquet... He can only get better from here on in... and a certain other little Brazilian who very nearly won the championship was so awful in his debut season that he could barley drive in straight line. These days he is quite impressive.

And I can quite confidently pre-empt Bruninho's "Don't make me laugh"

His teammates haven't been all that weak. By my reckoning the only teammates he's had who haven't won races are Marques and Yoong, and currently Piquet.

Ok, but on the other hand, in a season Alonso won 6 or 7 races, Fisico for example won 1 race. So Fisico wasn't bad, but he was weaker imo.

But indeed, after a season like this, Piquet wasn't even helpful by getting points away from the competition.

yes, but he had a year off in 2003 testing with Ferrari. this added experience of testing or racing in gp2 would surely help piquet as well.

Well, was Kovoleinen helpfull to Hamilton?? no he wasnt, as Hamilton only won due to Massa having to an engine failure and a pitstop failure.
If Piquet has the best car next year, he may perform as good as Kovoleinen this year in the best car, or better, we dont know, maybe Pquet just couldnt get good car setup with the R28, but surely he has speed as GP2 has proved, im sure Renault also has confidence in him, they must see 'some' talent in him to let him drive in their number 2 F1 car, of which only 2 people in the world get to drive. Piquet would have looked better in any car other then Renault this year i think, as Alonso is F1s best driver (I think, you dont have to agree, but its very likely)... so if you look at it that way, he could be a good number 2 next year, most likely qualifying higher because of more experience and no doubt a better Renault car since Renault is pouring more money into the car now. He wasnt the only one having trouble qualifying this year too, just look at Heidfeld and Kimi, only less is made of that as they have better cars and have more experience, and dont have Alonso as teammate.

Did I mention Kovalainen? And didn't I admit I think Piquet does have speed?

Its a very good point Sapo.

ive not seen many question his speed, he may not be Alonso quick, but he is not slow. Poeple are really questioning his ability to finish a race without n00bing it up every corner.
