Maybe this may wait till Monza, but Spa is alson one of quickes circuits in calendar (possibly 2nd after Monza).
I must admit that I'm disappoint by current F1 top speeds.
Is current V8s that 'slow' or...
I remember when v10s are produced more than 320 at many tracks, even 350-370 on Monza and (old) Hockenheim.
My question is that nowdays speeds are because (less powerless) engines or it is because (complicated) aerodynamic, or maybe rules?

About Spa as such, it isn't that much low downforce track as such.
More medium dwonforce, not all corners are very fast, plus it could be also that setups are done with rain in mind..

Those V10's had only 1 race to last though. It wasnt an un-common to see them go boom.

Comparing Monza 05 to 07 in quali the difference was about 10k's

I wouldn't worry too much about the top speeds. It is in effect just a number and doesn't really affect the spectacle in any way.

The cars are still pretty much the quickest racing cars, in that they accelerate, corner and brake faster than any other formula.

I dunno. Even as a spectator I used to @#$%& bricks watching the cars dancing along the straights at Monza and Hockenheim. :P

Oh undoubtaly... though what I mean in it still looks the same... I mean it'll still look great at 200mph wobbling down the old Hockenheim straights as it would 220mph... it's all how it's presented.

yep, you are right, but still, F1 are the fastest racing cars of the world, it dissapoints me to see 340kph at monza, when they used to go 370+ kph...

lol...

An explanation would be nice. I'm not aware of any racing series or racing car that is faster around a Formula 1 track.

lol, probably dragsters, or Indy racing on ovals... but on pure perfomance, around a racetrack, what is faster than a F1?

Well the subject was top speed and you kept saying fastest, not quickest - which are 2 different things.

In terms of top speed there are many series far faster than an F1 car. For example, around a circuit, even in restricted form, the current Le Mans Prototypes are as fast as a Formula 1 car. I'd love to see what the 908 and Dome could archive if the ACO wasn't restricting the engines on an individual basis.

If you take the original subject and talk about top speed, not what is quickest around a circuit, then CART/CCWS until the introduction of the DP01, Indy Car, Dragstars, and even NASCAR Stock Cars have recorded speeds much faster than F1.

The "lol" was more because when the issue of top speed comes up, it is always treated like a popularity contest. "My motorsport has a bigger top speed than your motorsport" kind of thing. Like top speed actually makes any difference to the excitement.

I may have miunderstood here, but did you just say that LMP's are as quicik around a circuit as F1? Using Silverstone as an example, LMP's are about 10-12 seconds slower than F1.

The question IS about top speed.
It is known that nowdays (not always, but many times in history) F1 are the quickest racing machine in 'normal' racing tracks, and there no doubt about it...
It not have highest top speeds, but that was due what F1 presenting and on what tracks they are racing/raced. And F1 newer was about top speed but is almost always was/is known for capability to produce huge top speed, specially cornering speeds and average speed on lap/race.

I just want to say that I'm disappointed by nowdays top speeds. First I was thought it is because every year we have smaller number of high speed tracks, but that may be just half of 'problem'. Still I think that F1 is not fast enough when is in question TOP SPEED.
It seems that they easily hit about 300 km/h on almoust any track but everything above that look like really hard to produce like they have some limiter or something...

no, he didn´t. they produce a top speed that matches f1 top speeds

lol, you take all of that from my post?...

anyways what i meant was what stipe said... being the "quickest cars" i feel dissapointed that they don't produce as much top speeds as previous years...

It would be interesting to see if there's a circuit (not an oval) where another racing series car could be quicker in theory than an f1 car, because of lots of long straights, and few corners, so high top speed delivers more advantage than brake and accelerate power and/or downforce.

What would be more interesting is to see an F1 car lap an oval.
