BMWs device on the front to mirror the midwing? Red Bull's huge fin? The front wing looping over the nose? What are you taking about? :P

Renaults much anticipated 'w' wing lol ?

[f1.gpupdate.net]

also has no-one yet got any images of the underside of that nose? Or has anyone heard anything, whether it is flat or not?

I'd hardly call then innovations. Just bits stuck on or extensions. :P

The Ferrari nose is (meant to be) something sculpted completely new and unseen in anger. While it's not exactly revolutionary, it will at least be some radically different by modern standards. Not just something that's been stretched.

Regarding testing itself I'm not fussed about these times, I still say Ferrari will dominate the season. Perhaps not as much as I was suggesting (all-but a couple of races being theirs) but I fully expect 10+ races to be celebrated with a midget or one of his henchmen on the podium.

What the hell is that, is that their anticipated wing. Looks like some panel which has just been bent from both sides.

I thought that they said that the W wing was just a rumour anyway?

W-Wing? First I've heard of it TBH :) sounds like a star wars out-take though...

Also, does anybody know what livery williams ran today? They've had a few special edition ones in the last few tests and I've not been able to find any pics of what they've been running today.

A variation on the familiar theme probably showing where the white parts are going to be in the actual Melbourne version, with indicator lines:

If the nose is what people have suggested, it wont look so different, and radical? no.
it apparently relys on the same principle as the williams from 2004.

the idea is to relieve the high pressure build up from top surface of the wing by giving it somewhere to go, ie, over the nose. this was one of williamses primary features as patrick head said.

I don't know which pics you've seen, but on the ones I saw there was a hole in the nose. That's quite radical in my eyes.

It'll look radical though. I wasn't talking about effect, just something which looks completely different. It's not an innovation though - I think I've read it's been tried in the past, though I've no idea who by. As plus to what you've already said, it should also turn the nose into a downforce-creating object (intentionally or not), whereas previously it was just something to sculpt air with the absolute bare minimum of downforce created through it.

Wasn't the Williams walrus thing more to do with giving the front wing immediately clean 'access' (for want of a better word) to the air flowing over it and to compliment the twin-keel?

Is it just me or do Ferrari appear to be having an awful lot of reliability issues with their new car? Just seen another stranded Ferrari from todays test being pushed by mechanics. Seems like we're in for a repeat of last season... Ferrari having the edge on most circuits, but suffering from reliability problems, while McLaren keep plugging away and picking up the advantages where they can. Saying that, I don't believe Ferrari have any edge on McLaren right now, but hey, testing right? Interested on seeing this new nose they come up with though! :)

A while ago I posted a Patrick Head article, it explains the Walrus's purpose...

"Looking at the car for this year, it’s got a very unusual nose. It came out of a development that started two years ago where we were looking to bleed air up from the upper surface of the wing, up through the nose and over the top of the car. We started with a fairly conventional-looking nose with a big hole in the middle, then as that developed we ended up taking the front bit away, resulting in what we’ve got now."

Hondas pace is much improved :s

But the effect, JB apparently has a problem, or so AtlasF1 forums say.

Also the tiems for ForceIndia are awesome.

AFAIK, Williams was the first ever team to use a W-Rearwing in 1994... Senna drove the FW16 with that wing.

The updates by mclaren seem to have moved them ahead by a bit, but we do not know what everyone else is testing.

Renault do seem a bit back as Alonso said and at the start of the year I can see them being behind rbr.

Ferrari do seem to break down alot as its been said, from what I know they have not got 2 cars to complete a race distance at the same time. I dont know if anyone can clear that up?

The only thing I remember is in resent years this is one track that mclaren dont go so well on so its interesting seeing them ahead in testing, but as I said it is only testing.

This talk of the ferrari nose reminds me of a few years back when Todt said wait until you see the new ferrari it was have a totally different front wing to anything you have seen before. The car came out and it was totally normal lol.

Atleast Renault seems to be copying ideas from BMW..

Kimi, so, Massa Fernando Sebastian is faster than you. Can you confirm you understood that message?

I can bet that the Honda's aero department has no idea of wtf the horns added to the car can do for them, it looks like they are just copying it because macca and bmw were successfull in using them ;P

and on a side note, yeah, I also have no idea of wtf are these horns designed for :P

I presume Vettel was driving the STR rather than the RB4? If so that's 2 days in a row where RB have been very unspectacular and look to have fallen a good chunk back from the teams they were battling it out with. Not reading much into 58 laps today, but it's hardly looking like anything special currently.

Looking like Ferrari and McLaren are stretching their gaps to the others a bit too. Rosberg more than a second back from the Maccas and still half a second from a rather more conservative-looking Kimi. Still, at least Massa was around his time, so perhaps it was just very different programmes.

//edit: cheers for that article Chet - helps explain things nicely. :)

Actually, Vettel was drafted into the RB4 so that Coulthard could recover from his neck injury (which he sustained on Monday).

Or at least, that's what it says on ITV-F1...
