Who will replace Alonso if he leaves McLaren

Who does anyone think will replace Alonso next year. I don't think Rosberg - he is too strong with Williams but maybe. Button I think definitely not with problems in the past and his retainer. Maybe McLaren will go for another junior driver to save money. I don't think Pd La R will be too popular either. Maybe even Nelson Piquet jnr (unlikely with Flavio connection). I also don't think 2 Brits in one team - so rules Paffett out. Quite difficult really.

How about Sutil?

He is German and would not cost much.

I don't imagine they'd promote de la Rosa into the race seat after all of this.

Whats Kovalainen's connection to Flavio and Renault, the two could do a swap

Heikki is going nowhere, i think Nico or Adrian Sutil could be good candidates but Nico has apparently resigned for Williams, as for Sutil i'm not sure if he has signed or not.

Sutil and Lewis are meant to get on well and he would fit in I think.

Would mclaren want to young drivers though? thats the thing.

I just dont see how Alonso can stay but who knows.

For Alonso though going back to renault is sort of a step back as I dont think they will be winners again next year. Their engine is not meant to be as good as ferrari, merc and BMW.

Nico is staying put, he is being crafted wisely into a nice Williams mould!

I expect him to stick there for a while, Williams definitely seem on the up this season, and it seems Nico has a team workign around him from an early point in his career.

I'd like to see Piquet at Williams, though am not sure of his hype, comes across as a bit of an arse to me, but I will hold that for now until he is in F1 and racing for a year or two.

I'd like to see Rosberg move to McLaren for competitive purposes, he would be a race winner for sure - but as much as I wish to see it, waiting for Williams to regain power and win in a Williams would be oh-so-sweeter!

I really do not care about Alonso or Hamilton - power has got to both. ITV have washed patience with the pair of them and the constant bumming. Zzzzzz

Maybe I did not think of him but thats the thing would they think of him.

He has shown he can win races when the car is good and he is german as well but would mclaren want to pay him much.

well according to finnish media Alonso is going back to Renault most likely and has said he wants to be a number 1 driver and Fisico to be his team mate..Heikki would then be rent to a either Toyota or Williams...don't know about McLaren....Nico would go to McLaren ,rumours are very strong at the moment because Alonso's future with McLaren is quite surely finished all what he has done and said is enough for Ron.

Nico is a no, he signed at Williams
Sutil is a no, he already has a deal with Spyker
Kovalainen is a no, he already has a deal with Renault (I think)
Ralf is a no for obvious reasons.

If Alonso would leave, I really don't know who McLaren should sign, as most of the decent drivers have contracts.

Which is a big shame IMO.

contracts can be resigned with money....that's sad but that's F1.

It's not as if Spyker don't need the cash. I'd get Sutil in if Rosberg's contract is hardcore.

tbh i was thinking about lucas di grassi but nicholas todt is trying to be his manager so he'll prolly join ferrari after massa leaves but lets see we have alot of good ppl to check...

The Hakk should have come back in 2005, imagine what a superteam him and Kimi could have been at Mclaren.
