this remindes me of Schumi's words when he praised Alonso and said:
u don't fight for titles unless u r a great driver.
but remember 1999,Eddie Irvine fought for the last race, and he was 1 sec a lap slower than Michael almost every race.

How about this report from pitpass, covering one of the friday practice sessions:

"Giancarlo Fisichella and Jacques Villeneuve also have fresh v10s this weekend."

v10s now? 0_o

It's only after we've lost everything, that we are free to do anything.

Formula One has always been about the package - only the media and fans have brought the drivers to the fore - because lets be honest thats a bit more exciting! Was it Fangio or one of the early great drivers who only signed one year contracts - so he could get himself in the best car for each year. But to get yourself there - you either need tons of cash (alex yoong etc) - good links (massa) or just pure talent which we see in Schumacher, Alonso and Raikonnen. For Villeneuve - he has talent - maybe not as good as other drivers (all depends on how you suit the car etc) and he landed himself a great seat and car and scraped a championship in 97. Alonso didnt have the best car in the grid last year - but he made the most of the package and the misfortune of McLaren and took the drivers championship.... Fisi however just didnt have the luck (not that i believe in luck but if i did - he's bad luck personified - pat symonds said words of that effect this week)

i dont really care what others say about JV, i like him, mainly cause he's not a boring sh*t like most of the other drivers ;)

I think that JV has got his a spring back in his step this year, he's still a good driver that has had a lot of people against him over the years, yet he takes the criticism well and gets on with the job. Not being dropped by BMW has meant a lot to him as he only drives well in a team that believes in him.

He only beat Hill in 1997 when Hill was in an Arrows! Hill was the 1996 world champ and Villeneuve was 2nd!

Hill was one hell of a driver. I mean, who else could have qualified an Arrows on the front row, lead the majority of the GP and come second to MS in hungary 1997? That was ONE HELL of a drive!!

I think, given the machinery, JV could be as good as he once was. Frank has a habit of giving ace drivers a race seat - Montoya, Button, Hill, Coultard, Villeneuve and now Rosberg. It would be good to have Francitti over from the states to see how good he is - Come on Frank - ditch Webber and have Francitti.

All from me.

There is only 1 great champion in the f1 right now and thats MICHAEL SCHUMACHER, 7 times he did it, alonso 1 time, well deserved one and jacques 1 time also deserved but all the others 0

kimi bla kimi si kimi la, till now he only won some gp's, far away from a championship and i think as long he stays with mclaren the longer it will be to win a title !!!

Hill was far from one hell of a driver.
He was very poor in comparison to other world champions

22 Grand Prix wins including 1 in a woefull Jordan car, 1 World championship, runner up twice, and still we get these bullshit comments.

Believe what you want, but Damon Hill had talent AND class! One of the best World Champions ever....

you have your opinion and me my own but my comment isnt bullshit. so kindly STFU ;-)
Hill had the best car in 96 by far and nearly lost it to his rookie teammate, his 98 Spa win was nothing other than a gift from DC ;-).
How you can classify Damon Hill as one of the best champions ever is laughable tbh, Schumacher, Clark, Senna, Prost, Fangio, Fittipaldi, Piquet, Stewart, Mansell and Ascari are much more notable and better champions than hill.
He made a tough job of what should have been something stupidly easy.

Champoins don't get lucky!!!!!!

they all deserve what they get. This includes Hill, Schumacher, Alonso and Villeneuve. They are clearly greater drivers. How could anyone doubt this???

Give Villeneuve a good car, and I really think he would do the business again. Motivation in any sport is clearly a large factor! Jacques hasn't had anything to live off recently!

Speaking of bullshit...the Jordan was far from Woefull. Ralf Schumacher finished 2nd in it, explain that?

Damon should have walked the 1995 title, but screwed it up. He should have walked the 1996 title. Afterwall, DC, his faster team mate who was improving all the time had moved away and he had a rookie. Yet he still managed to almost throw it away

I like hill, but one of the best world champions ever? Hes not even in the same league as Clark, Senna, Prost, Schumacher, Fangio, Stewart or Mansell.

Come on Dave, even you know the FW17 was woefully unreliable especially in the gearbox department and Williams nearly always lost it in the pitstops, where even Forti were faster than them :P and JV despite being a rookie was a damn good driver in 96. Just because its your rookie year doesn't mean your crap, Just look at Carlos Reuterman and Mario Andretti, who I believe actually won the championship in his rookie year.
