FIA president Max Mosley has been awarded France's equivalent of a knighthood, the Legion d'Honneur, for his contribution to motorsport and road safety.

French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy and French Sports Minister Jean-Francois Lamour presented Mosley with the award at a ceremony in Paris on Tuesday night.

Mosley's joins former French grand prix racer and Ferrari ace Jean Alesi was also given the honour.

Among the host of friends on hand to see Mosley collect his Legion d'Honneur were F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone, Ferrari's sporting director Jean Todt and Red Bull magnate Dietrich Mateschitz.

Love it how itv.com put ace after every driver mentioned on their site!
