ALL the teams play around in testing. There are none of the obvious rules that apply at races so they go out underweight or with the intention of blowing an engine just to see how far out the engineers predictions of its durability are. I'd be worried if a team's times were bad AND they blew the engine after 20 laps or so. First thing Williams did was to destruct a Cosworth V8 and now they know its limit. Come race time McLaren will be there or thereabouts.

i guess maybe the look of the new Mclaren has brought back the bad memory's from 2004
and yes the exams are killing me ...today i sat 6 staright hours and i was only able to read 90 pages of (Antony and Cleopatra) by Shakespear....
although its written in English but the langauge is pretty an English, its very hard to read.
anyway my exams ends next saturday.(same day theaters are showing dark water...)..its been a very along 60 days..and being able to see the movie will be great.

The funny thing it's that not only they are slow, but not reliable,

pedro de la flower blew an engine just 2 days ago after only 19 laps or something like that...

"If a team has success, then inevitably other teams start to make good offers," said managing director Martin Whitmarsh this week, but he denied that any key figures had joined Newey in finding the door.

Means they are going lol

Mclaren could be up the sh*#s for 2007 if this is true, just as they are starting to do well. This must be gutting for Ron.

so was Massa's car the F2004 or F2004M? it says 'M' on that list, and in the one Marc posted the other day, but everyone is saying its the normal F2004, not the F2004 adapted to '05 regs.

testing times don't mean anything .I usually check the how many laps they have made and from that point of view things doesn't look too good for McLaren :(

Massa was using F2004 again not F2004M you can see it from the pictures...

why do they keep reporting it as the F2004M then, are they blind or stupid?

I think they are a little bit of both :)

Kimi's debut with the car was the fourth day of running with the MP4-21, and the Finn added over 300km to the car as he completed 65 laps at the Spanish circuit. His quickest time of the day, a 1m17.739, put Kimi in twelfth place on the timesheets.

The cold and foggy weather conditions continued, with track temperatures not reaching above zero until after 09:00, and as a result following an installation lap shortly after 09:00 the Finn spent just under two hours in the garage before returning to the track at 10:52. Following another short run of 4 laps, Kimi began more longer stints. A minor oil leak in the gearbox was detected early afternoon, which was repaired by the test team and Kimi returned to the track to continue his programme.

KIMI RAIKKONEN
"It is really good to be back testing and it is great to see what the team have done with the new car. Because it was my first day in the MP4-21, most of the time was spent with me getting used to it and then starting to look at different set-ups. My first impression of the car is positive, but I will need more track time to find out how great the potential really is. Also we could not run all morning because of the cold weather, but even so we put in a good number of laps and drove over 300km."

because the M refers to interim car, which this is, as it is the 2004 car with a 2006 spec engine.

This is testing still anyway, the 20 is set for tyre evaluation duty and today was Kimi's first ever go in the 21 and they are still performing system checks on the car, with over 11,000 new electronic components in the car this year they obviously want to make sure they all function correctly without any major problems.

Testing usually means absolutly nothing, some teams will show boat, others will get on with tyre testing or system checking like Mclaren, they are not there to get to the top of the time sheets, that is not the idea of testing.

well Kimi told to finnish nespaper that there is nothing wrong with the car (just that it eat tyres little too much ) but he said that there is still a lot of work to do with the engine :( (McLaren lost 9 km/h in top speeds to Renault and Honda). Kimi also said that the car feels good but it just doesn't go anywhere but he said that team knows where the problem is and Mercedes will bring big updates to the engine in few weeks .Kimi also said that his target is of course to win a championship this year but it doesn't look very good now :(

Kimi also said that we shouldn't look too much testing times because teams are testing different things with different fuel loads .
