I agree. I know lots of people want the pinnacle of engineering and stuff like that, but you can see that elsewhere. Can't be bothered looking for who said it, but:
Dragsters have better acceleration.
Fighter Jets have better top speeds.
You get more G-Forces in a space shuttle taking off.
Good drivers (and F1 should be the best) don't need driving aids.
Grannies (and Americans) use auto gearboxes.
High downforce means the air is more turbulent and racing is more spread out. What if the downforce continues to increase? The cars will struggle to get within 2 seconds of each other. A focus on mechanical grip gives the designers a new challenge. Obviously they do work on it, but they might spare some time currently to enhance the aero grip, since it can make more significant improvements.
The only thing that might be a concern to me, is no spare car.
Provided the FIA were to find a reliable partner(s) for the standardised parts, then I see no problem there. THe part need not push the performance boundaries, hence reliability issues would be minimal.
Bring on some proper racing I say, and a bit of sideways action too maybe.
